Donald Drives the Debate (Phyllis Schlafly)

"If it weren’t for me," Donald Trump told the Fox News moderators at the first Republican presidential debate, "you wouldn’t even be talking about illegal immigration." The record-breaking audience of 24 million, which is ten times Fox’s usual nightly viewership, had to agree.

Trump’s new position paper reinforces the blunt talk that has propelled his rise in the polls: "A nation without borders is not a nation. A nation without laws is not a nation. A nation that does not serve its own citizens is not a nation."

That’s a refreshing contrast to the immigration paper recently released by Jeb Bush, who is the candidate of the big-money, big-business faction of the Republican party. Jeb famously said illegal immigrants were guilty only of "an act of love," and his plan would reward them with permanent "legal status" which he said must be "combined with" long-overdue measures to secure the border.

True.

He’s driving the debate and

REDEFINING THE RIGHT.

Here’s what I mean.

The Leftists are great at redefining the ‘moderate’ or middle of the road position on issues. “Well what homosexuals do in the privacy of their own homes is their business.”

Now, if you oppose gay marriage you’re a ‘homophobe’ and ‘bigot.’

The LEFT has controlled what is normal and what is ‘extremist’ for years now.

Trump is redefining what the right wing is. “Take away all the illegals and their children who may have been born here and deport them all.”

So that’s the right wing position.

RINOs have capitulated so much ground we need to go hard, hard right to get back to normal.

Trump is now demonstrating his ability ‘to set the political’ agenda....and pace it.

Trump has used immigration to drive a stake into Jeb’s candidacy.

AS VIGILANTEMAN INSIGHTFULLY POSTED— Mexico still teaches that the American SW (over which they had very limited control 1821-1848) still rightfully belongs to Mexico; Mexico actively encourages colonization via illegal immigration into the US...and plots to takeback the land.

That makes illegals on US soil a de facto invading army.

And just as children born of diplomats are specifically excluded from birthright citizenship, so are children born of invading armies.

Illegals that pour over our borders are invading armies of brigands and barbarians. They are taught they are on stolen land and must lie-in-wait to get it back from the gringos. They are coached on how to become political pressure groups “for the cause.”

Tiger....did you also note Cruz setting up a Southern “Firewall” while everyone else was in Iowa...and in then in comes Trump and takes over the entire event.....meanwhile Cruz cuts a trough thereunder the south.

These two have a very real thing going on in how they're setting this stage....remarkable and brilliant!

Jeb is terrible.

What the Repub establishment doesn’t realize is they’ll NEVER win a national election and will lose many, many states if Leftists are allowed to stack the deck with 11 million new voters.

Illegal immigration is an existential threat to the nation. It’s a slow invasion. If tanks were coming across the border, our military would respond. Instead, Leftists welcome the new ill-informed, Welfare criminals and are happy to inform them how they are oppressed while signing them up to vote.

Trump is making immigration the litmus test for the Reps. Kasich said this morning that deporting the illegals is "inhumane."

It will be interesting to hear how the other candidates respond to Trump's plan. Don't go wobbly on us, Donald.

I think Cruz was smart not to criticize Trump or his voters. Those are Cruz people and the two could work well together.

Cruz knows Washington, he’s Hispanic, he’s a brilliant debater, and he’s my first choice. I just don’t think the $120 million war chest Jeb has built up money is EVER going to Cruz. So he won’t do it on his own.

He with Trump though would be a great ticket and the conservative turn out would rival the 90% black turnout Obama got.

That’s what the “we need a McCain / Romney” crowd doesn’t understand.

Motivated base is how you win elections.

Cruz is going to have a problem with the Trump plan. Cruz supports legalization of the lawbreakers, albeit without a path to citizenship. He also favors a massive increase in H-1B visas, something Trump wants to reduce along with total legal immigration.

It will be interesting to hear the comments from Cruz on the Trump plan.

It is not that Jeb is terrible. It is just that he is unable to face reality. As I have posted elsewhere:

One can argue about the costs & problems with any attempted solution to the present dynamics, which are completely undermining American cultures in community after community. But the one thing that is totally unrealistic is the insane notion that you can preserve the American values & culture of the Founders, without a drastic policy that addresses the realities on the ground.

The Left has used a massive "bait & switch" strategy, going back at least to the 1950s; but with much earlier roots, to undermine the continuity of American culture & identity. The attack goes like this. They first identify actual mean spirited--even hate driven--attacks on people, based on their race, ethnicity, faith or class. Then they label the motive behind those attacks as "racism," "bigotry," "nativism," or whatever, and gain a certain consensus on that labeling. That is the bait; and most of us can agree up to that point, that what they have labelled, is indeed something bad; something that should be avoided, and condemned.

Then comes the subtle switch. At first by slow degrees, and then in a great propaganda rush; the condemned behavior ceases to be limited to actual misdeeds against victims, and is expanded to include any racial, ethnic or religious identification--indeed any sense of community with people with whom you have shared a common history, kinship, values & identity. In short, expanded to include the social "glue," that provides for the cohesion and continuity of a people.

Because so much of our Academia & the puppets in the media who parrot what the Leftist crackpots in Academia installed in their minds, are themselves totally committed to the lunacy that people are interchangeable; that the apparent differences are merely products of a social environment that can be manipulated & changed by social engineering; much of the public never questions what has happened to common sense.

There is almost no sense of proportion or logical relationships in the public discourse. And unless we find a way to break out of the resulting Pavlovian like conditioning, boys and girls, there is not going to be a recognizable America in the very near future.

Jeb Bush may be a very nice man, personally. He is certainly to be commended for loving his wife. His niceness--his commendable sense of his own family--are not the issues. For whatever reason; whether from what he was conditioned to believe in College, or what he has come to believe with the sort of advisers he has had since; or whether from something innate in his character, he is not the man to be taken seriously on this issue.

I have tried to put this in as nice a way as possible. But we are faced with the question of whether America survives as a people. Trump gets it. Bush does not.

Illegal immigration is an existential threat to the nation.

Legal immigration is an existential threat far greater than illegal immigration. Over 35 million LEGAL PERMANENT IMMIGRANTS have come to the US since 1990. They are future voters and 87% are minorities as defined by the USG, Minorities and immigrants vote more than two to one Dem.

Excellent point re legal immigration.

We have Ted Kennedy to thank for that.

Legal immigration is also destroying the U.K.

Agree with your points. Jeb does come across as a nice and caring man, but bordering on weakness. Plus, we’ve had enough of the Bush family. He’s not going to get past that.

There were previously in American history hiatus times without immigration to allow those new citizens to assimilated to their culture.

The cultural assault of the Left convincing college kids and elites that we are a terrible nation (when, in fact, we have been the light of the world) has created a weakened population incapable of defending itself culturally.

The sad truth is when darkness falls on the West we are looking at a new Dark Ages ruled by Islam. That’s the threat we face and our children and grandchildren will live with the consequences.

VP would be a great gig for Cruz with Trump. Trump doesn’t know Washington or how to get it done, but Cruz does.

The RINOs are in complete meltdown mode. I saw show after show on Fox bashing Trump non-stop. They are beside themselves that we might actually get a conservative. And Trump isn’t even a true conservative; he’s moderate on many social issues.

We need to destroy the existing Republican party leadership and recreate it.

They are already threatening purges post-Trump losing. We need the purge after Trump wins.
