The Republican Establishment Wants to Know What Explains Trump? They Explain Trump!
Rush Limbaugh.com ^ | August 17, 2015 | Rush Limbaugh

RUSH: Look, folks, let me just tell you: The Republican establishment learns the wrong lessons from everything. It has become obvious to me. Whatever large or small issues happen, they learn the wrong lessons from it, such as they lose an election and say, "Oh, my God! We better shore up the Hispanic vote. We better agree with the Democrats on amnesty." Wrong. Just as an example. The Republican establishment, if they're trying to figure out Donald Trump, they need to stop looking at Donald Trump.

Donald Trump does not explain Donald Trump. They explain Donald Trump. There's a reason Donald Trump's doing what he's doing, and that's because nobody else in the Republican establishment is. Forget... Political parties have always been responsive to their voters, until now. Now we've reached what I think is a real seminal moment. And that is, the Republican Party establishment has joined the Democrat Party establishment in looking down on its own voters.

I know it's not new, folks. Nothing's new. I under stand. It's just different degrees. I know I'm the one that's told you (and I haven't forgotten) how the Republican establishment came up, poked me in the chest, asked me what I was gonna do about the Christians 'cause of the pro-life movement and abortion. I understand that. But this? I mean, they're trying to figure out what explains Trump. "It's low-information voters!" No. What explains Trump is the Republican establishment. I'll have more detail if you want as the program unfolds.

Maybe Rove can get out his whiteboard and ‘splain it. But he’d have to pull his head out of his ass first.

I predict (and pray for) many sleepless nights for the entire GOPe.

Rush hits on several points. Most of all the establishment types who are unable to understand Trump because he doesn’t fit in to any of several patterns with which they are familiar. It is clear that this is George Will’s problem, and he is so confused that when he comments, he comes off as unbalanced.

Listening to his show today, now the antis are calling Rush “liberal” for not attacking Trump. It’s occurring here as well.

Notice the new talking points is that Trump is not a “true” conservative. The Left and GOPe all of a sudden cares about Republicans not carrying the mantle of conservatism, and that Trump’s past positions and support of Democrats should make him a non-starter. They are hoping that conservatives, i.e. the conservative Republicans we support, would stand up to Trump. That’s why you got people like Beck and Will coming out of the woodwork.

I listened to a lot of Rush’s program today. He reiterated that his highest priority is to deny the Dems the WH in 2017 - ALL ELSE IS SECONDARY.

I have to agree. I also happen to believe that if the GOPe gets its way, Rush’s goal will not be achieved. People are SICK AND TIRED of the same old crap, and someone like JEB or Kasich will be destroyed at the polls because the base will simply not show up. We’ve been lied to way more than enough to have finally wised up to it...and THAT is what gave us Trump (i.e. Rush is correct).

He also mentioned that Trump is a less-than-perfect messenger. Yup, that’s true. But it is also true that Ronald Reagan advised that if you get 70% of what you want in politics, you should take it and run away. Trump has many issues, from the conservative POV - he is NOT a genuine conservative. OK...but when is the last time that someone who WAS a genuine conservative was nominated? 1984 by my reckoning. So, IMHO, the choice is (at least right now) between Trump and his many “impurities” and at least having a practical person who has America’s interests at heart in office, vs. another Dem (and, again at this point, someone likely hand-picked by Obama-Jarrett, since Shrillary is imploding...with some help from the Obama-Jarrett controlled DOJ). We simply cannot stand another 4 or 8 years of Obama-Jarrett.

I want Cruz, and if Trump implodes then Ted may take a lot of his supporters and move to the nomination. But if Trump continues as he has...continuing to attack the corrupt in politics (the very definition of a target-rich environment) while brushing off criticism...then he will get the nomination and win. You see, Trump will motivate a LOT of people to vote who simply didn’t show up for the last 8, 12, 16 or 20 years - just like Reagan did in 1980.

Trump won’t be perfect, but even Reagan wasn’t. We have to change course about 180 degrees from the last 8 years, even the last 28, if we are to survive. Trump appears to be the only one - right now, anyway - who has the guts to do that. He simply doesn’t give a rat’s ass who he insults and who’s ox is gored - he’s after effective policies that will help this country, and people respect that even if they don’t agree 100%.

I had an interesting note from someone that perhaps ONLY a Trump/Cruz candidacy could truly reboot the Constitution in this country. My answer was that it may take the wide net of Trump’s “popular conservatism” to bring in the raw ore, that Ted Cruz would temper in his Constitutional forge.

I’m Trump/Cruz but I agree, I want Cruz to stick to him like glue, if the ball is dropped I want Cruz to pick it up without loss of yardage

Easy to explain Trump, he wants to save America. Is that complicated? Shouldn't be.

Cruz is playing it so cool. I think Trumps ego is way too big for him to just hand it to Cruz. But I think they worked out some kind of deal when they met.

Damn right. The intelligent screwed Romney not realizing that they were helping elect King Obama a second tern and look at the damage this dictator has done. Nothing Romney could have done would even compare to the shi! our dictator has done.

For the last twenty years we have had neo-cons, evangelicals, free marketeers, libertarians, country clubbers all battling for the soul of the GOP. I admit, I probably belong to one of the above factions. What we are finding out is that all of them did not have the numbers to carry the day, even if they formed temporary coalitions, still they lacked the numbers to carry the day. All the think tanks, mega churches, big money donars in the world could not bring in the average voter. On the other side you have a party, the Democrats, dominated completely by refugees from the 60’s, feathering their own nests in the government, unions, Hollywood, and the universities. Underneath all this rigamirole, sits the average American. He hears all the arguments for small government and it leaves him cold. He really doesn't care, he wants to know what is in it for him. Nobody for the last twenty years can give him an understandable answer. He turns on the TV and sees another thriller that casts America as the villain again, and it makes him angry. Along comes Trump, and he is speaking to them. He tells them the country is great, and he is going to make it great again. But the masses are not thinking the 1980’s and Reagan. They are thinking 1949 and Harry Truman. That is the American they want. That is the America Trump is promising, and the majority of people want it. They do not want anything to do with smaller government, Social Security reform, flat tax or fair tax, sanctuary cities, dreamers, Goldman Sachs, I could go on. They want the America of government helping them, not illegal aliens and “urban honor students”. Trump is promising this. He is going to get their job back from China, he is going the clear the day laborers hanging around the Home Depot. They could not care less what Nick Gillespie, Tom Friedman, Stephen Moore or Paul Krugman think about anything. This is the biggest faction in the country, the culturally conservative. They do not give a damn about reducing government, they just want back the America of 1960. Like it or not, Trump has the heart of these people, and they have the numbers. As someone who has doubted Trump and still feel the same way, for myself. I acknowledge he has my faction beat like a rug. I might not like it, but that is a fact.

I thought Rush was on fire at times today. He was just reaming the GOP establishment for doing nothing, then hiding behind their conservatism.

"What has it gotten us!" he shouted. "All that conservatism that they are so concerned about with Trump---what has it gotten us?"

That’s why I went to the polls & voted Romney. Not my perfect candidate; but not Obama either. I’m sick of King Obama. from the get-go.

It's Huckabee or Cruz or lose. I'm not voting pro-abortion or pro-homosexual marriage no matter what.
