WPOP Hartford Makes Long Awaited Talk Flip (Carr, Levin etc)
RadioInsight ^ | 8/17/15 | Lance Venta

WPOP [AM 1410 Hartford CT] made the flip to News/Talk today billed as “News Radio 1410” utilizing some programs originating elsewhere in the region and syndication. The new lineup will feature Vinnie Penn from sister 960 WELI New Haven in mornings from 6-10am, the WRKO Boston based “Financial Exchange” hosted by Barry Armstrong from 10am-12pm, Bloomberg Radio from 12-3pm, Howie Carr from 3-6pm, Mark Levin 6-9pm, and American Now with Meghan McCain from 9pm-12am.

The previous Fox Sports Radio programming will remain in overnights and weekends.

INSTANT INSIGHT: Bloomberg from 12-3pm? Sure looks like a placeholder for someone else. How long until CBS’ 1080 WTIC announces Rush Limbaugh will no longer air on the station?

PREVIOUS:
Update 8/6: While no change has happened yet at 1410 WPOP, iHeartMedia has indirectly confirmed a change will be taking place. In a press release announcing that WPOP will become the home of the new Hartford Yard Goats minor league baseball team, the station was identified as “News Talk 1410AM“

Oh Geez. They should use that down at Guantanamo. That will get them to talk.

500 large a year in Boston.Less
for a smaller market like Hartford.
CBS may be happy carrying Rush
on their WTIC,true,but if they
decide not to renew,there’s WPOP,
owned by iHeart whose Premiere
division syndicates Rush.

Listen to Howie Carr for conservative fun
Listen to Levin for a conservative education

Yes, well said, kidd. Howie Carr can be SO funny at times... a couple of times I almost drove off the road while laughing so hard, LOL! Don't miss Howie's "Chump Line" - every day after 5:00 pm ET. (Usually around 5:10 or so)

We are THRILLED to welcome Mark "The Great One" Levin to the Hartford, CT market via WPOP 1410 !!!

Thank you, raccoonradio, for the ping.

Pinging some Connecticut FRiends here...

For some of you in northern CT: Also check out Howie Carr on WHYN 560 out of Springfield, MA. WPOP is kind of a weak station, unfortunately.

One problem with Howie and Mark being on WPOP 1410...

WPOP is also the flagship station of the New Britain Rock Cats (the AA farm team of the Colorado Rockies). So I assume Howie and Mark will be preempted by the Rock Cats during baseball season... :-(

I hope Rush doesn't leave the 50,000 watt WTIC for WPOP, but I also get Rush on WHYN 560 here in north-central CT.

Happily, we do have some good choices to hear Rush here in CT!

That Joe D. and Gresh (sp?) show is AWFUL! I'll bet the great Bob Steele is turning in his grave at what the WTIC management has done to his once-great radio station. (I think Steele would have liked Rush Limbaugh, though.. he was a Republican)

Make sure you tune to WPOP (or WHYN 560) at 3:00pm for Howie Carr.. he is informative and HILARIOUS!

And... Howie Carr LOVES the FReepers! He often mentions FR on air. :-)

they had a DJ named "Dale Denver"--real name Mike Adams, now doing night on the WEEI Sports Radio Network.

a-HA! Didn't know that. My husband and I enjoy "Mikey" Adams on WEEI. He's hilarious!

We get WEEI here on 105.5 FM (Westfield, MA) and sometimes on 103.7 FM (Providence? Rhode Island).

WPOP fades out where we live after dark. (Thank you, raccoon radio for those maps)

Darn! I hope I can get Mark Levin on WPOP. If not, I have his app on my iPhone.

I will never forget Mike Adams, during a live TV broadcast. He was in New Orleans, I think, covering the Boston Patriots during the two week lead up to a Super Bowl. He was in front of the camera holding his mic when it was announced that Jeane Dixon had just died. He didn't miss a beat and said, "who could have predicted that!"

I never saw him on tv again. I also remember the time he locked himself in the radio studio and stayed on the air. I think he was petitioning for a raise or something.

Goodness! WPOP is a blast from the past!

I used to listen to that station to get the Everly Bros. and Johnny Mathis hits.

Are they still on Cedar St, Newington?

Mike Adams hosted a rock, soul and
blues benefit for charity and
goofed around a bit. Once he looked
down at a piece of paper and
allegedly read from it:”Your fly
is open,” he said and pretended
to zip it up...

is syndicated by iHeart which owns
both WPOP and WKOX (1430 in Boston,
which runs her live at 6pm)
