Every civilization that has practiced polygamy has collapsed.

That's not true. We've long had politicians who were polygamists. They had families and then had mistresses on the side with whom they had families. They were not legally married yet they were polygamists all the same.

President Grover Cleveland comes to mind.

And then there's the serial polygamists who marry, have kids, divorce, marry again, have more kids, divorce, and etc. They're polygamists, too.

Monogamy is marrying one person for life. Any variation from that is polygamy.

Legalizing polygamy will not be the end of civilization any more than divorce was the end of civilization.

It's like saying the band music on the Titanic contributed to the sinking of it. IMHO the ship is going down whether or not polygamy is legalized.

Yes, that’s true. However, I was referring to “polyamory.”

At least until the children reach 13, then all bets are off for the next 10-15 years.

What about civilizations where its’ acceptance is forced? That’s not really practicing it, it is controlling thought.

In the end I believe that is the crux of the issue - when the state dictates morals and thought.

The difference is you are “polyamorous” within a small group of people. It is like monogamy but with more than 2 people. You are not having relations with “everyone”.

Anyone having sex outside the agreed group is technically cheating and it is very frowned upon.

Personally, I’ve always wondered about this issue. I often feel like I would be happiest with at least two women in a relationship if society was accepting of it.

I’ve never cheated and tried my best to find one since I was 18 but no one woman has kept up with me so far. Being monogamous with a woman that cannot keep up (and tries to limit me) has felt MUCH worse than being single.

Being single, I’m free to date whoever I like and move as fast as I like. Of course monogamy gives you a greater connection and eliminates disease. True polyamory seems to give you the best of both worlds but I never tried.

More and more people are starting to accept polyamory. It’s no longer unusual to find two ladies having joint profiles on dating sites looking for a “real man”. 5 years ago this didn’t even exist. So I’m likely going to give it a shot and see for myself!

There were even songs about it in the 60s, like "Groovin'" by the Young Rascals, you know the line:

Life would be ecstasy/You and me, and Leslie...Groovin'......

"Every civilization that practiced monogamy has collapsed too"

No they haven't. There are numerous civilizations that haven't. Western civilization has not yet collapsed.

I’m going to declare myself a turtle and attack all who naysay as hateful deniers.

Turtles are not required to have health insurance.

” I often feel like I would be happiest with at least two women in a relationship if society was accepting of it.”

Doing things contrary to God’s revealed will will not bring you happiness.

It will also harm others. Such is the fruit of sin.

It is much less ridiculous then letting same-sex couples marry. Polygamy-type mating is common in the animal kingdom and doesn’t defy biology or the reproductive purpose of sex. Same-sex marriage is an absurdity.

You’re right, of course my point is I love to suddenly see all these gay people suddenly get “Conservative” and say that more than two people shouldn’t get married to each other.

And polygamy goes back to the Bible, Koran and Torah and many other religious customs - so it is religiously sanctioned in many cultures for millennia.
In contrast, homosexual pairings treated as “marriage” has only been around for a generation. The Theban band of brothers and best friends in the Middle Ages who wrote torrid letters of how much they missed and cared for each other are note worthy as exceptions, not the norm and never considered equal to a husband and wife.

I am extremely perceptive and God will reveal the Truth to me along that journey. As He always did when I explored other "sin" in the past.

I listen to God only through the mechanisms the Universe. Not through pages written by other men.

No doubt, I've been wrong many times. But trying and seeing the Truth for yourself is a whole other level of understanding beyond reading it...

Western civilization is collapsing before your eyes and polygamy has nothing to do with it.

After polygamy and polyamory will come incestual marriage, inter species marriage, yeah the deviants are that warped and eventually marriage disappears from the culture as it will become so devoid of meaning as to be useless. Defining deviance down to below the gutter will not take long in what is left in America.

“but at least the practise is quite common in many parts of the Islamic world and sub-Saharan Africa.”

Two sections of the world hardly worth emulating.
