(PPP) Trump Leads Republicans in Missouri
Public Policy Polling ^ | 8/12 | LS

Posted on 08/12/2015 5:24:57 AM PDT by LS

PPP's new Missouri poll provides more evidence that Donald Trump emerged from the first debate at least momentarily unscathed. He leads the Republican field in the state with 23% to 11% each for Jeb Bush and Ben Carson, 10% for Mike Huckabee, 9% for Ted Cruz, 8% for Scott Walker, 7% for Carly Fiorina, 6% for Marco Rubio, and 4% each for John Kasich and Rand Paul. That makes for a very clean top ten in Missouri because everyone else is at 1% or less- Chris Christie, Bobby Jindal, Rick Perry, and Rick Santorum all get 1%, George Pataki is at less than 1%, and Jim Gilmore and Lindsey Graham have literally no supporters.

What really stands out in the numbers is how broad Trump's support is- he leads with moderates (25%), 'somewhat liberal' voters (23%), and 'very conservative' voters (20%) alike. He is a lot stronger with men (30%) but he leads with women too at 16%. He's particularly strong with young voters (32%) but also leads with middle aged voters (21%) and seniors (17%). Every group we track he has the lead with on this poll.

Trump is very smart by trying to bring adversaries into the fold. I won’t hold my breath on Rosie O’Donnel though.

****************************************************************

If Rosie had a brain, she’d go all in for Trump, praising him to high heaven. That would hurt him politically, more than anything else she could do...............If only Rosie had a brain.

Like I said carry on with your agenda. Trump is a fraud dummy with no ideas got it.

I don't think Trump is a dummy, nor do I think he's a fraud. I think he genuinely has no workable solutions. Compare him to someone like Ted Cruz. Ted Cruz says he will repeal Obamacare. No ifs, no ands, no buts. Trump says he will repeal Obamacare and replace it with something "really terrific". Where is that a plan? Ted Cruz wants to seal the border and remove those here illegally. Donald Trump wants to build a wall that Mexico will pay for, don't ask him how, and maybe send some of the illegals back, likely the rapists and drug dealers, and if any of the remainder are good people like he assumes some are then maybe they can stay. Ted Cruz says he will defund Planned Parenthood, period. Trump will defund Planned Parenthood...at least the abortion part...maybe fund the rest...or not, depends on the day. Ted Cruz has not, to the best of my knowledge, had to walk back or clarify a single issue he has proposed a solution for. Donald Trump is all over the board.

I don't get the Bush vote either. He always seems to be hovering at that 10% mark but I have yet to meet a person who says "Jeb Bush, now that's my guy!"

Trump is going to be a force to be reckoned with if he stays in this race. I saw his speech and press conference in Michigan last night and if he keeps that up, I don't know who can stop him.

"How exactly is he doing it?"

Remember Mississippi?

And a host of other assorted ills...

Yes. He looked like a president last night. If he keeps looking like that, then even those who lack an imagination will come on board.

“Sooner or later people are going to realize that there is no ‘there’ there.”

I think there might be a “there” there but whatever “there” there is, Trump hides it pretty well behind his bluster.

Cruz is not going to deport/kick out every illegal immigrant in this country. He has said secure the border (like Trump has said) and then deal with the ones here. Neither of them support full amnesty, but they will not say that they will send every one of the tens of millions of illegals home.

I can provide quotes and links if you like but I prefer you do your own homework.

I like and support both Cruz and Trump at this point and they are very similar (and correct) on illegal immigration. Sending millions of people that are here home all at once is a pipe dream. Not going to happen and they are both smart enough to know that, but they both will stop the tide.

Not what he said on ISIS, and the 1980s (not to mention the 1920s) showed us you can cut taxes and balance a budget. Reagan would have had a balanced budget if Congress would have kept expenditures to 35% increase (tax revenues rose 40%)

Wait, did Trump even criticize the establishment after Mississippi, or was he a democrat then? I recall Ted Cruz calling out the shennanigans, but not Trump.

Funny, I saw Zep in 77 on their Icarus tour (or whatever it was called). Maybe it was just the gym they were in (the new Sun Devil Gym at ASU) but they were horrible. Plant sang everything an octave low, the music was a dull, undiscerned roar. I was reviewing for a local counterculture paper at the time. But I had my t-shirt until just a few years ago-—the original.

No. Absolutely not. If you recall, in 08 McCain was constantly touted as "beating Hillary" then "Beating Obama" in early polls. I can't prove, but seem to recall, Mittens was either ahead or tied in most polls with Zero in 12.

At this time of year, too many people are rightly hyped up with "their" candidate and won't vote for anyone on "our" side if it isn't "their" guy. I think a great number of people who say they'd vote Hillary or not vote would vote against her in a one-on-one, but we won't see that for quite a while.

Well, that’s carrying it too far. My brother in law went to military school most of his life and I wouldn’t want him for pres :)

But after the farce primary on the 24th nobody other than cruz, from any party, said anything. I wouldn’t have expected a nyc businessman to say anything at all, frankly. Not his place. I was FAR more disappointed in the lack of response from the local pols frankly.

Exactly!
*Modern* Americans are the ultimate herd animals.
They make noise about individuality, but the vast majority can never break free of the herd. They constantly seek validation from and acceptance of the herd.

Many find their herd somewhat early in life and stick with it. Be it a political party, religion, military branch or racial identity.

Some will change herds during their lifetimes, but still identify with a herd of their choosing.

A few will break from a herd and strike out on their own.
They may wander near a particular herd without joining it. But they still value the nearness of a herd.

The smallest minority never identify with a herd and will keep the farthest possible distance from all herds.

I look at myself and those I know. Everyone values the sense of belonging, the sense of community.

The “rugged individualism” that Americans love to talk about is, for the most part, long dead.
Once the west was tamed and railroads made travel easy, the individualisn that conquered a continent wasn’t needed. It in fact became a liability to society.
Individuals scatter, herds build large cities.

"If this were 1996, Ted Cruz would have been the greatest candidate on earth."

I don't think so, we had an excellent Steve Forbes in 1996 and 2000. He went nowhere, sadly.

"Sooner or later people are going to realize that there is no ‘there’ there."

Tell that to Rogers Ailes and Foxnews. Or maybe ask Rick Perry. Next up Rand Paul.
