Poll: Trump Surges After Debate Controversy (Morning Consult Poll - Trump 32%, 2029 reg voters)

Donald Trump's dominance in the polls shows no sign of abating despite the controversy that has raged for days over his comments about Fox News moderator Megyn Kelly and her treatment of him during the first GOP debate last week.

According to a poll by Morning Consult conducted Aug. 7 to 9 of 2,029 registered voters, Trump leads his nearest rival by nearly 3-1 with 32 percent support. Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush in the No. 2 spot has just 11 percent support.

Every other GOP contender clocks in with less than 10 percent support: Retired pediatric neurosurgeon Ben Carson is in third place at 9 percent; Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker and Florida Sen. Marco Rubio are tied for fourth place with 6 percent; Texas Sen. Ted Cruz is at 4 percent, a decrease from 7 percent the previous week. What's more, the controversy appears to have boosted Trump, giving him a 7-point increase in support since the previous survey. Special: Get Donald Trump's Cap Free – Make America Great Again! The share of Republican primary voters who say they view Trump favorably also increased since from 57 percent to 62 percent, though he continues to have a 52 percent unfavorable rating.

"That makes Trump both the most popular candidate within the Republican field and the least popular candidate Republicans could nominate for next year's general election," Morning Consult said in a statement.

How do you figure? 400 of 796 would be almost 50%

All Trump supporters will have to enjoy it while it lasts; he’s eventually going to sink, imo. There just are not that many women who think so little of sisterhood, to go along with his attack on both Kelly and Carly.

So you think women are stupid?

She SHOULD be..that off-putting personality of hers will not help her at all!

Nope; I think Trump is a fool to disrespect women, regardless of who he is talking to or with. He’s on his third marriage you know. Is it possible he’s not such a great communicator with women in general?

Cruz at 4%? I don’t think so.

One poll says Cruz is at 13 percent and the next one says 4 percent.

Both claim a margin of error smaller than the difference.

What are these polls measuring, exactly?

This is what bothered me. I have not made a final decision on who I'll vote for, but it really bothered me that different candidates got different questions, some much easier than others while most of Trumps were of the “gotcha” variety. Why not ask all of their views on a certain policy? You could of had, in two debates, all 17 of their views on the top five issues as chose by viewers. Instead, we know Donald Trump called Rosie names. Did Ben Carson once get mad and call somewhat stupid? I know some of them have called Christie and/or Huckaby fat. You just know it. So why with certain candidates do you bring up nonsense? If you think Trump has no clue on foreign affairs, ask him about that— the most important issue of our time! Keep at it, we need to know! I think that's what Megyn Kelly doesn't get— you pick one person and ask only them “gotcha” questions you lose.

Rutro! Where's Jebster?

Must be mighty disappointing for the RINOs (and imperial underwear weavers) who were planning to ride those anointed coat tails back into Cronyville.

I’m wondering what the viewer data was for Megyn’s show on Monday. I hope it dipped by half of what normal viewership had been in the past.

“There just are not that many women who think so little of sisterhood, to go along with his attack on both Kelly and Carly.”

Kelly and Carly attacked first; he responded. He would’ve responded similarly if the attacks have been made by men. If they want to play in a man’s world they can’t whine about Trump picking on them.

The “sisterhood”? So disgustingly PC. Intelligent women care more about America than having a “sister’s” feelings hurt. This is playing the same type of race card the blacks play. If the ladies are in it seriously, they need to man-up.

Yes, this is a BS poll. No way that Cruz declined.

It’s a shame Kelly is so busy “seeing” herself, that she can’t see others before her; i.e. her three children whom she could be raising full-time. The Roman Catholic priest who conducted her wedding Mass [with her first husband] inferred ahead of time, that the marriage could be headed for trouble because she didn’t want to do for her husband, only herself.

But, regardless of what Kelly does with her life, we’d love to see a chivalrous knight type as a president, and we’ve got some on the stage, running, who would never think to disrespect anyone, not a man, a woman, or a child [i.e. Trump believes abortion should be allowable for the baby conceived through rape/incest].

Exactly. He is up in every other poll. I think to around 11%.

“I was sure the MSM was going to outright lie in all the next polls, saying that Trump had tanked.”

Same here. And if trump is smart, he’ll have contracted his own polling operation and be ready to publicize it the instant they try that garbage.

That’s probably one of the main reasons the media doesn’t try it — Trump could easily show how they were lying (assuming he had reputable, scientific polling).

Plus, it would require widespread collaboration among ALL of the polling companies if they even hoped to be believable. If they didn’t all cheat at once, the cheaters would be too obvious.

I don’t think Hillary would like to debate women’s issues with Trump after being married to a serial deviant for so many years (Cigar man).

Seriously, who would vote for Huck, Kasich, Paul,Bush, Christy, Fiona? What did you do to stop Obama?
They have proven themselves powerless. They will attack other Republicans but not Obama?

I feel so much better that Cruz and even Carlson are now positioned at the top. While Bush is sinking. :)

WOuld that have happened had Trump not been in this race? Perhaps.
But, i doubt it would have been this early in the race.
