Cruz might get some support if Trump pulls out but he's got a ways to go in getting his message out to pull in the types that trump is pulling in right now.

If Trump DOES pull out he's got it easy...he can just say the Republican party is corrupt and rigged the game to get him out.

Speak the truth...

Well, a significant number of Trump supporters will walk if the GOPe screws him out of the nomination. That is, if he has a plurality of delegates and votes, and they collude to give it to someone else.

If that "someone else" was Cruz, would you still walk?

I think both Jeb and Trump create a landslide for the DEMs. Conservatives sit out Jeb, establishment sits out Trump. Establishment would also sit out and work against Cruz. He’s not “one of them.”

It won't happen. The GOPe would never go along with giving it to Cruz. They hate him too.

“Pat thinks that Ted Cruz inherits the estate if Trump pulls out”

Trump is leading in the polls; if he stays on topic he will remain in the lead. Why is the idea he will drop out always being postulated? His response to Kelly’s question showed he is nimble on his feet. No one else will be ever be sneaky enough to get one harder to answer. Kelly’s accusation was designed to make him backtrack, knuckle under. He didn’t.

“Let’s face it, Trump didn’t have much new to say. He does need to articulate things better. For example, I would say Huckabee was light years better in that regard, as was Cruz.”

They had better questions. Trump had snark and accusations.

Who gives a rat’s butt what the GOPe thinks of Cruz? Do you have some secret logic the rest of us can follow? The GOPe hate Trump yet you think he can win. Yet because the GOPe hate Cruz, you say he can’t win. Hello, McFly, anybody home?

On sheer electability, Rubio would be the best V.P. for Cruz. He helps get the women’s vote by being a pretty boy, a la Quayle. He would completely shore up Florida. A double hispanic ticket may have benefit. He also would campaign on emotion to make up for Cruz’ logic-heavy campaign. He would satiate the GOPe the way Bush Sr. did. So a powerless semi-RINO for 8 years would be a decent trade-off to keep Hillary out.

So where would the rude loudmouth vote go in that situation?

-- What bothers me most about the GOPe is that they do not comprehend how outraged the voters have become over illegal aliens being preferred to U.S. citizens who vote! --

They comprehend the outrage, and are indifferent to it. The GOP, as a party, doesn't care if it is in the minority, and I think it prefers being in the minority. It's more effective in the minority, that's for sure.

Any individual politician picks a party based on sense of which party gives him the best chance of getting into office.

None of it based on principle. It's called "politics." The elites run the country, and conduct a vote occasionally to maintain the illusion that the people have a meaningful voice. The "democracy = freedom" (or "democracy = consent") canard.

I would tend to agree at this point in time.

We'll see if Trump actually has a more sophisticated strategery going on and if he can appeal to the 'rat emotional thinkers.

I heard a story a few years ago about a woman who voted for LBJ “because he was the peace candidate”.

Not many years later her son was KIA in VN.

Just saw an immigration advocate on Fox News saying that we have to open up more immigration because people are waiting too long to get into the country. He thinks this will solve the illegal alien problem, they will be able to come in legally so there will be no need to come into the country illegally. What a dope! There are 7 BILLION PEOPLE IN THIS WORLD! No doubt at least a billion or two would like to come to the United States (especially if we give them welfare benefits). What this guy doesn’t understand is that the more people come to the United States THE BIGGER the DEMAND FOR IMMIGRATION. Because each new immigrant has many relatives and friends who would be inspired to try and come to America. The more immigrants come here the longer the waiting lists are going to be. It is a never ending problem. We have to say enough is enough.

Buchanan may have a point

The faction in the GOP that walked on Goldwater still exists

They are not comfortable with the conservative base of the GOP

They will gladly accept their votes if for a RINO

Look what happened to Ollie North in VA in 94

RINOs won't vote for a conservative and conservatives are tired of having RINOs shoved down their throats

GOP may be done as a presidential entity

They hate Cruz more, because he is relentless, principled, and knows what he's doing. That makes Trump a stalking horse, and frankly, I don't think he really believes half of what he says. If he wasn't, he never would have got so much air time.
