From the “Little House” to the Congress? It could happen for Livingston County resident Melissa Gilbert.

Gilbert, star of the hit 1970s television series, “Little House on the Prairie” on Monday announced she would run as a Democrat for the 8th District Congressional seat in next year’s election.

The news thrilled area Democrats.

“I think it’s very, very exciting news,” said county party chairwoman Judy Daubenmier,

“We worked with her on the Schauer campaign (for governor) and, I can tell you, she’s a real trooper. She’ll be a very effective campaigner.”

I watched the show... but as a kid it was not a favorite. It seemed contrived, like, for instance the characters Nellie and Mrs. Olson were just like cartoon characters written as so the audience would just hate them. I liked Mary, and when she went blind it just became “weird”.

It's the district next to mine. Most of the district is conservative, but it also has Lansing and MSU.

Bishop should win it, but if there is a big Lansing turnout, it could be tough.

Apparently "Mary" was a beatch in real life.

Pity some of the values of the show did not rub off on the actors.

Little House on the Prairie aired an episode “Soldier’s Story” on March 24, 1976 which centered around the Civil War. If indeed the Confederate flag was seen in this or any other episodes, shouldn’t this series be taken off TV Land or any network that shows these re-runs? In addition, shouldn’t Ms. Gilbert apologize for being associated with this television series? Just curious.

Should the ‘Rat win, perhaps Treasury can garnish her salary until her $300,000 in back taxes are made good.

Even the blind sister can see that Mike Bishop taking little Laura to the woodshed is what needs to happen here.

This woman divorced Captain Sheridan and married that weird looking ginger dude, how odd. He’s the reason she’s in Michigan, it’s his home, not hers. They should both go back to Hollyweird.

Pretty is as pretty does. Supporting the destruction of marriage, abortion of babies and continued thievery by government is a sign of a sick mind.

Livingston County is a Republican strong hold.

That's the good news. The bad news is that Lansing and MSU are also in the same district.
