Washington Post Column: Senate Republicans accidentally promote abortion
Washington Post ^ | 08/02/2015 | Dana Milbank

Senate Republicans this week, teeming with righteous indignation, introduced S. 1881, “a bill to prohibit federal funding of Planned Parenthood Federation of America.”

Here’s a better name for it: the Abortion Promotion Act of 2015.

No doubt the authors of the legislation think that anything that hurts Planned Parenthood, the leading provider of abortions, would further the pro-life cause. But their proposal — defunding all Planned Parenthood operations in retribution for secret videos showing the group’s officials discussing the sale of fetal organs — would do far greater harm to fetuses than anything discussed in the videos.

There already is a ban on federal funding of abortion, with rare exceptions, at Planned Parenthood or anywhere else. The federal funds Senate Republicans propose taking away from Planned Parenthood are used largely to provide women with birth control. And because there simply isn’t a network of health-care providers capable of taking over this job if Planned Parenthood were denied funding, this means hundreds of thousands of women, if not millions, would over time lose access to birth control.

Take away women’s contraceptives, and a greater number of unintended pregnancies — and abortions — would inevitably result.

Consider: Of the 4.6 million people who receive care annually under Title X, the federal family-planning grant program, 1.7 million of them go to Planned Parenthood — and two-thirds of women leave with some form of contraception. Sen. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) and other sponsors of the Senate legislation claim that other providers in the family-planning network will pick up the slack. But Clare Coleman, president of the National Family Planning and Reproductive Health Association, says that’s nonsense.

“It shows an astonishing lack of understanding about how these networks are put together,” said Coleman,

Ridiculous. It’s like saying “you pay for my heating bill, I’ll pay for my gambling habit!”

This is the big talking point this week. Let’s promote how wonderful Planned Bodyparts is and how women depend on them. Anyone can walk into Walmart and spend $5/mo for contraceptives. End of story.

Not funding abortion promotes abortion.

Its like saying if you dont pay us, we will do even more evil.

Dont make us shoot this dog, send us your money today to save his life. Its in your hands.

Time to cut them off completely. Let them do what they’re going to do. Without half a billion from government taxpayers I doubt they’ll be able to do more evil than before.

The author is wrong. There is nothing “accidental” about the gop factions’s continued support of planned infanticide.

The theatrics are amusing, but rest assured that planned infanticide’s Federal funding is in no danger of doing anything but being increased. Sure, the gop faction has a show bill that might even get so far as ubama’s desk. It’ll be vetoed and quickly forgotten in favor of other “national priorities”. Like funding the export/import bank.

And this, ladies and gentlemen, is exactly what we get for voting.

Voting = complicity.

Evidently the “mammogram” lie wasn’t working, so they’ve moved on to the “birth control” lie.

There are a couple dozen varieties of birth control pills, patches and devices available in generic form, $10 for a 3 month prescription at Walmart and numerous pharmacies. Equivalent to the cost of a couple of sacks of potato chips.
A former employee of PP, now pro-life—I don’t remember her name—was on the radio one morning a couple years ago. She talked about corporate meetings where the PP bigwigs discussed financial goals, and how to increase the bottom line. She said the goal was to get young girls to have at least 2, preferably more, abortions, because that’s where the money is. She said PP intentionally did not push prevention. When girls requested prescriptions for birth control pills, they intentionally prescribed low-dose pills which would be ineffective. She said these things were openly discussed in corporate meetings.

Yes, Dana Milbank, we understand - your nose is out of joint because you are not physically capable of having an abortion.

But maybe if/when you go through with the reassignment surgery, you will be able to have a simulated one, to demonstrate to the entire world your fervent support for unrestricted trafficking in aborted fetus body parts...
