Trump Sues Chef Who Backed Out Of Restaurant Deal [Chef Backs Out After Illegal Immigrant Remark]
ABC News ^ | 08/02/2015 | Mike Levine

Presidential candidate Donald Trump wants a prominent chef to pay $10 million in damages after the food star bailed on plans to open a new restaurant inside Trump’s latest project in the nation’s capital.

A group owned by Trump — Trump Post Office LLC — filed a lawsuit today in federal court.

Last year the group began $200 million in renovations on the historic Old Post Office Pavilion in downtown Washington. And within months, chef Jose Andres announced he would be opening a new restaurant inside the new Trump International Hotel.

At the time, Andres issued a press release saying he has “long respected Donald Trump for his business acumen” and was “proud to partner with him,” the lawsuit recounts.

But after Trump made controversial remarks in June suggesting illegal immigrants from Mexico are criminals and “rapists,” Andres backed out. Since then, the two sides have been in a contentious, behind-the-scenes back-and-forth, according to the lawsuit.

“Mr. Andres’ offense is curious in light of the fact that Mr. Trump’s publicly shared views on immigration have remained consistent for many years, and Mr. Trump’s willingness to frankly share his opinions is widely known,” the lawsuit states.

The lawsuit says the two sides entered into a 10-year agreement for Andres “to operate a … flagship restaurant” in a 9,018 square-foot space, and Andres “was obligated to use and occupy the [space] as a first class, high quality, flagship, top-tier Washington, D.C. restaurant.”

There are a 100 chefs already lining up for the job. Chefs are a dime a dozen even good ones.

It’s for the best because the chef probably would have had Mehicans working there anyhow and throw parties for same sex marriages.

So contracts are merely vehicles of convenience? Your pettiness towards the Trump candidacy is descending into a long pout.

Give ‘em hell Leni.

Or as H.S.T. reportedly said, “I don’t give them hell, I tell them the truth and they think it’s hell”. Ellis

If you thought Obama was petty and vindictive, you ain’t seen nothing yet.

This isn't petty nor vindictive. It's about someone legally agreeing via contract and having them violate that contract for no legal reason.

Puzzling.

Nah, Andres has just been hanging around the Bourdain too long, and picked up the bad habit of negativity of an aging hipster.

What is it with his people who think, because the media is bashing Trump's remarks, they can walk away from their contractual obligations...

They must all be liberals...

The restaurant will be doomed to fail anyway. An owner who sides with rapists is not good for business.

GWB not only didn't fight back, he also didn't correct actual lies, like there were "no WMDs found in Iraq" and "WMDs weren't moved to Syria!"

Those lies hurt lots of people and left lots of supporters inside and outside his administration hanging. The lies also left lots of special ops guys (and perhaps a few gals) hung out to dry, when they knew the actual facts.

I have no idea whose lame brained decision it was to permit these lies to stand when we had actual proof of the exact opposite but that's when I and many others withdrew our support of Bush - that and when the so-called "rules of engagement" left brave heroes to die and even being charged with murder on a battlefield in the time of war!

Lastly, when Cheney's chief of staff, Scooter Libby was convicted and Bush refused even to commute his sentence, left me with such a sour feeling about GWB, I can state I no longer support him and definitely do not support his family.

I thought his dad, Geo. HW Bush was a failure in office and we are stuck living with such abominations as the idiotic, Americans with Disabilities Act, let alone telling me which toilet I could no longer purchase and set in place dictating my choice of light bulb!

People like this chef, who defied Trump, are, to me, just as unbelievably stupid are professional athletes who have a single talent...catching footballs, have a multimillion dollar contract and a free ride through life, decide to take an illegal drug, slap around their girlfriend, and otherwise give up millions of dollars for 15 minutes of whatever satisfaction they get out of what they do.......PATHETIC.

Methinks the Chef is having financial problems, and he used the “racist speech” as an excuse to back out of the contract.

Mr. Andres is not too bright. He will go nowhere. Trump was his meal ticket.

The last straw for me with W was when he charged the Wounded Warrior Foundation 100k for a speech. I thought that was really bad and I have always admired W for having integrity.

Well Senor Andres. If Illegals are so noble and wonderful you ought to enjoy your new taco truck in Ciudad Juarez.

Amen to that!

I guess I was unaware of that charge but seem to recall it now!

That was pretty cheesy - kind of like Hillary only hers would have been double!
