Zimbabwe to U.S.: Extradite dentist over killing of Cecil the lion
CNN ^ | Fri July 31, 2015 | Faith Karimi, Michael Martinez and Laura Smith-Spark

As outrage grows over the killing of Cecil the lion, Zimbabwe has called on the United States to extradite the American dentist who shot the prized big cat.

Zimbabwe has started extradition proceedings and hopes the United States will cooperate, said Oppah Muchinguri, the African nation's environment minister.

Walter Palmer "had a well-orchestrated agenda which would tarnish the image of Zimbabwe and further strain the relationship between Zimbabwe and the USA," Muchinguri said.

Palmer, his professional hunter guide, and the owner of the land where the hunt took place are accused of an illegal hunt under the country's Parks and Wildlife Act, Muchinguri said in a statement on the country's parks and wildlife website.

Specifically, Palmer is accused of financing an illegal hunt, and he and the professional hunter are also accused of illegally using a crossbow "to conceal the illegal hunt" so they wouldn't alert rangers on patrol, she said.

I don’t think you fought with me. - I just meant that it was good of you to make the statement. In light of the juvenile we have at the head of our government, things turn real serious real quickly.

Does the US extradite citizens to foreign countries where the crime committed was not a crime onder US laws? Does the US have an extradition treaty with Zimbabwe?

Yes, indeed. I feel very sorry for this man who may have now fallen victim to our evil president. Pray that doesn’t happen!

Let’s say his crime was possessing a .45 bullet in Mexico.

Let’s say he drove back home, over the border, and someone viewed a video where they saw the bullet he had possessed.

Would you want him to be extradited back to Mexico to spend 20 years in prison, because owning .45 bullets is illegal there??

Or...let’s say he possessed a Bible in Saudi Arabia, then flew home with that same Bible.

And someone took a picture of him reading that Bible, and Saudi Arabia wants him extradited back so they can kill him for blasphemy.

Would you want to extradite him?

My point is that barbaric countries, which Zim is, have different laws and sometimes it’s barbarous to subject Americans to their injustice, as such would happen were we to send the dentist back to Zimbabwe.

Scary thing is, you can bet The Messiah is seriously thinking about extraditing the guy.

If the 100,000+ idiots who signed the petition on the White House website have their way, Obama will ship him back to Zimbabwe pronto.

Welcome to mob rule in America.

If you walked into a house with a mounted elk head, or deer head, you’d leave?

That seems so insane.

Here in rural Oregon there’s tons of people who mount deer and elk they’ve killed, with nice racks and antlers.

There’s restaurants that have walls lined with pronghorn, elk, deer, ram and bear.

You consider that so offensive that ‘d walk out?

Honestly, I don’t understand this new mentality...

USFWS may be looking into the importation of the cat’s head or hide. I’ve read stories here on FR about guys spending big money on an African hunt, more money to get it mounted (over there), and then our laws changed and they can’t get their mount into the country.

There is some proposed law (Washington state) that would make it a lot tougher (or illegal) on selling anything with ivory. The NRA is involved due to the ivory grips on some weapons. (It would include sales of old things with ivory).

I support him being extradited. Here is why:

Murderers who make their way to Mexico are never extradited unless the US/state/municipality agrees to not use the death penalty. Even those who are here illegally - they chose to come here and break the law, and suddenly don’t like the penalties. When these things happen, we complain loudly about Mexico meddling in our laws. Rightfully so.

He chose Zimbabwe carefully, no doubt because it was a place that he could jet into, bag a lion, and jet out, not having to worry too much about the law.

He did things that might very well get him thrown in prison here (burying the tag, baiting the animal, animal cruelty -using an underpowered bow).

So, unless you are okay with Mexico or any other country dictating to our justice system, he needs to go. I’m not ready to hand our sovereignty to Mexico or anywhere else, and neither should anywhere else.

And again, if Zimbabwe is okay for poaching, it’s okay for prison.

Personally, I avoid places that are so inherently unsafe or unstable as to constitute a risk to me.

It means that if you specifically pick a lawless third world Hellhole so that you can zip in, bait a tagged lion, shoot it, and bury the body to avoid detection and zip out; then that same lawless third world Hellhole is good enough for you to face justice in if you are detected.

Moral of the story: don’t go running off to third world Hellholes. Or if you do, don’t break or even bend the law.

Because I am sick of people coming here and breaking the law and wanting their homeland’s laws to apply in America.

And you know what? If I don’t like it, and I know it’s wrong, I’m consistent. If the United States demands sovereignty (and we are right to do so), then we have to grant it to other countries. Zimbabwe gets to make their laws and we make ours.

Don’t like the hunting laws in Zimbabwe? Don’t go to Zimbabwe to hunt.

Don’t like the laws in the United States? Stay out of our nation.

Thank you for your polite reply.

I wanted to share with you that it is virtually impossible to enter Saudi Arabia accidentally, since a visa is required. If you get a visa, you can enter, and you can even bring a Bible, but you cannot worship in public or share your faith in a public way. Proselytizing will get you a prison sentence or worse.

I cannot possibly imagine going to Saudi Arabia and not knowing the laws there in a general sense. The US government does a pretty good job of warning you of what to expect, and the fact that in many cases, the US can do very little for you if you violate Saudi law. You are told in advance what to bring/wear/eat/how to comport yourself.

See: US Department of State: Saudi Arabia

Also, when entering Mexico from a plane, bus, car, or boat, you will see the following signs. I cannot imagine entering Mexico with ammo or a gun. At the same time, because of the violence and the fact that so many of the tourist areas are no longer safe, we no longer go to Mexico.

There are people. places and things we would like to see in Mexico, and I speak Spanish, but since I cannot defend myself or my family, and the government is a rotting corrupt mess, we will not go.

Guns are illegal in Mexico? For both citizens and visitors?

Wow! I guess we've seen just exactly how safe that makes the general citizenry in Mexico!

Such State policy is Tyranny incarnate.

No wonder these violent drug cartels are just massacring people by the dozens! Nobody can effectively fight back.

The Mexican citizenry should be allowed to defend themselves against violent criminals.

I wonder how many Mexicans own guns illegally...

I’ve hunted and fished in Mexico many times and took my rifles and shotguns with me. If traveling with weapons concern’s you most of the outfitters will provide you with what you need. While they have strict regulations Mexico is not gun free just follow their rules.
