Flight MH370: Part number ‘confirms’ debris from Boeing 777, Malaysian official says

KUALA LUMPUR: A part number on aircraft wreckage recovered in the Indian Ocean confirms it came from a Boeing 777, a Malaysian official said Friday, expressing confidence that the mystery of Flight MH370 was close to being solved.

"From the part number, it is confirmed that it is from a Boeing 777 aircraft. This information is from MAS (Malaysia Airlines). They have informed me," deputy transport minister Abdul Aziz Kaprawi told AFP.

The wing component found on the French island of La Reunion bears the part number "657 BB", according to photos of the debris.

AFP was not immediately available to reach Malaysia Airlines for comment.

Abdul Aziz's remarks are the latest by officials involved in the hunt for MH370 to indicate the increasingly likelihood that the piece of wreckage came from the missing Malaysia Airlines flight, a Boeing 777 aircraft.

There must be a floating debris trail. Only part of it intersected with the beach.

Are they going out from this island to search for it?

Yikes, that’s a huge search area. Amazing that the object ended up on what looks to be a tiny island. Wonder if satellite pix would help to spot further debris in such a large area. Study of currents should help, I would think.

Still not enough. It’s from a 777, and MH 370 is the only 777 missing, but......

I still want to know how the transponder and communications got turned off and how the plane totally veered WEST when it was supposed to be flying North to China.

A funny for this rather grim story. I was watching Fox News when they had a reporter make 2 gaffes in the space of some 10 seconds air time. He first stated that these debris were ‘x’ distance from the planes last destination and then stated that the piece was going to be sent to Boeing HQ in Toulouse, France! Since it is Airbus that is HQ’d in Toulouse, I presume that the piece’s destination (not position) would be elsewhere if it is shipped at all.

Interesting coincidence that my family watched the PBS Nova episode on MH170 just last weekend. Thank you partial funding from the EVIL David Koch!

Oops, my bad and too snarky! This flaperon is going to France as Reunion Island is French National and might very well be going to Toulouse for further analysis!

Chagrin for me!

We were on the Century some stuff are island magnets The Ghost vessel got to the island of Maui threee weeks after the rescue we missed Maui because of the time it took rescue them crazy

Posted on November 1, 2011

Earlier this month, crewmembers aboard the Celebrity Century cruise ship recorded interesting video of the rescue of an injured skipper in the Pacific as the cruise ship sailed to Hawaii.
The incident involved the Quantum Leap, a 49 foot sailing yacht which was being delivered from San Diego to Honolulu by captain Phillip Johnson, together with his nephew and another friend.
After the sailboat left California, it began experiencing problems with its generators and batteries, which compromised power to the sailboat’s satellite phone and GPS.

Captain Johnson was injured badly when rough weather struck the sailboat. Because of the distance to the closest port (some 700 miles), the U.S. Coast Guard was unable to send a helicopter but contacted vessels in the area.
In this case, the Celebrity Century was sailing to Hilo. As explained in an interesting account from Sail World, Celebrity Captain Konstantinos Patsoulas turned the 815 foot cruise ship around and headed for the sailboat which took approximately 12 hours.
You can see how the cruise ship deployed the rescue boat and took the crew of the Quantum Leap aboard the cruise ship, to the applause of the passengers and crew. The sailboat was adrift as the Century then continued it cruise to Hawaii.
Sail World also explains about how, three weeks later, the Quantum Leap washed ashore on a beach in Maui without its captain or crew . . .

Unless things have changed, aircraft parts not only had a part number, they also had a serial number assigned to the aircraft that it was assembled to.

Yawn.

After reports questioning the abilities of both the search contractor and their equipment, I care not.

The pilot got what he wanted. Thankfully, I cannot recall his name and, even if so, would not retype it here.

—— the mystery of Flight MH370 was close to being solved-—

It proves what was conjectured. The 777 went down

it puts the mystery no closer to being solved
