Donald Trump has made a name for himself on the campaign trail for sharp invective and brash hyperbole.

But when he takes the debate stage next week, he has promised to play nice with his fellow Republican 2016 presidential candidates.

“I look forward to the debate on Thursday night & it is certainly my intention to be very nice & highly respectful of the other candidates,” the billionaire real estate mogul tweeted Thursday.

In the meantime, the final few spots are still up for grabs and other candidates are scrambling to make headlines to gain enough ground to take the stage.

RE “promise to be nice”

Please don’t. The time for “nice” is long past.

If he doesnt respond in kind to the verbal abuse that is coming his way, he could be made to look good.

Not just the candidates but tear into the moderators if they do not address the important issues.
If the moderators keep asking stupid questions he should flipped them off, and then walked off stage, his numbers would soar! haha..okay, kidding..i think.

The lesson of 2011-12 debates, which no one seems to remember, is that the biggest applause moments came when trashing of the liberals.....while being respectful of the other Republicans on the stage.

Trump should stay aggressive, but aim it at the enemy.

Just take out a notebook and noticeably write in it each time someone attacks him. After a couple of time they’ll all back off

A little sarcasm, plain talk and humor seem to be working well for him. The formula fits his personality and people find it a refreshing change from the measured, calculated and scripted responses you typically get from professional politicians. Trump doesn’t need to change a thing. The others are the ones who need to change.

Yes Donald be nice-— just don’t play nice with the facts no matter whose toes get stepped on in corrupt DC.

He made no such PROMISE.

Excellent points....ones on which we can agree ;-)

Trump can aim at the enemy AND compare his point to how the GOPe has mimicked the Dims, at the same time. Two birds, one stone.

I think Donald can very effectively, and diplomatically, point out the similarities between the GOPe and the Dims/0bomba.

Exactly...when he calls all those political losers “losers”, I stand up and cheer because he is voicing what I think. I have a feeling a lot of others do also!

All Trump really needs to do is keep asking WHY so many politicians are failing to fix our problems. Who can disagree with that? He should also sling some barbs at the media. People love that.

Not being a professional politician who tainted by the stench of Washington is a priceless advantage.
