Karl Rove: Let's Put Trump's Poll Numbers in 'Perspective'

Donald Trump's poll numbers are good, political analyst Karl Rove conceded Thursday, but he urged viewers to put the numbers into "a little bit of perspective."

"He has been in the race for six weeks,"..."He has had a good move up, a good bump up, but we've seen this before.

"Look, there will be a lot of movement in this race. It is really still early."

And even though Trump is topping the polls as far as Republicans who would support him, his favorability ratings are suffering, Rove said.

-snip-

However, pointed out Rove, "30 percent of the Republicans say they definitely will not vote for him," marking the highest percentage of voters who said they would not support a candidate.

"In a June 15 Wall Street Journal/NBC poll, 66 percent said they could not vote for him," said Rove. And when it comes to his honesty, 58 percent of those in the Quinnipiac poll said Trump is not trustworthy, he added.

"Trump has a high floor and a low ceiling," Rove said. "He has a lot of enthusiasm going or some enthusiasm going, but he has got a ceiling."

I have an idea - Let’s put Karl Rove in perspective. What is his win/loss ratio?

I've had folks tell me they knew Priebus and he's a Conservative. Couldn't prove that by me.

I think Priebus predated Walker's rise to power didn't he.

Decided to take a look, and found this. Ouch.

Granted, it's Wikipedia so read with some skepticism:

On Sunday December 5, 2010, Priebus stepped down as general counsel for the Republican National Committee (RNC). The next day he sent a letter to all 168 voting members of the RNC announcing his candidacy for chairman. Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker supported Priebus' bid from the beginning, attributing the party's victories in Wisconsin to "Priebus' leadership and involvement in the grassroots Tea Party movement that swept the state and the nation"

What’s your prediction for him dropping out then?

I'm not making predictions. But if it goes the way I'm thinking, after those big early primary days the GOPe set up, from which point no conservative could ever build enough delegates thereafter, Trump will say something so stupid and outrageous (which the mediots will then amplify) that it leaves Jeb or Walker the last men standing. That Walker is already bowing out of winner-take-all Florida is especially telling. I'm guessing he's doing it to help Rubio get that one. If he does, Jeb is done. Then it switches to Walker.

Maybe I need a tag line pumping up Rubio in Florida?

OTOH, Rubio has been advertising heavily in California. Leave it to RINOs to seek a nomination victory in States they could never carry in the general election.

I wish there was somebody I could support in this nomination fight, but so far, it's a matter of whom I find is most concerning that is influencing my leanings. I don't desire any of them as President, not even Cruz. That TPA vote really sticks in my craw.

I hear ya. I thought our time was in 2014 but the GOP stabbed us in the back big time. Yet again.

Do not underestimate these people; they are capable of great treachery.

Reagan did have his terms as governor to point to, but Trump has his career of building a personal fortune off Real Estate ventures to point to.

I think that pretty much equals a push. Success in the Business environment could be seen to (forgive the term) trump Reagan’s experience also.

We do trash folks for having never had to run a business before, so I think that’s a fair assessment, not to detract from Reagan.

He understood this dynamic and addressed it himself regarding the government and private sector.

Rove works for The Cheap Labor Express.

It’s all about the amnesty and open border.

Dismiss everything he says.

Good point. In the national voting contest between the makers and the takers the math is not in our favor It will be essential therefore to be smart about nomination a ticket that has a chance of carrying key electoral states.

Really, Rove and what is the percentage of people who would never, ever, ever in a billion years vote for Jeb? From both the left, right and center. I’d wager it’s much higher than 30%.

Perspective: Trump’s negatives has dropped 40% in 30 days. Rove peddles nonsense.

Okay, well we see the timing along the same lines, if this should take place.

I agree with the projected ramifications. Sadly Cruz doesn’t seem to be gaining traction. Only time will tell there, but we’ve seen the GOPe out themselves on him.

Your comments on Rubio’s plans for California are particularly interesting to me, because California hasn’t been a nomination factor in decades. Why would he possibly head there?

Perhaps the answer lies in him knowing something we don’t, the planed time of departure.

What I want to know is what is the percent of republicans who won't vote for Jeb Bush, and why did it not matter that approximately 80% of Republicans did not want Mitt Romney and voted for other candidates in the primaries.

Why would he (Rubio) possibly head there?

Lots of delegates, lots of Latinos, winner-take-all.
