A 25-year-old Steelton man who was shot during a home invasion early Monday shot and killed his assailant, Steelton police say.
"We believe it was self-defense," said Steelton police Chief John King, who said no charges have been filed in the shooting, which occurred in the 300 block of Lincoln Street.
King said they don't know the identity of the man who was killed nor his accomplice.
The pair encountered the residents of the home – the 25-year-old man and a 38-year-old woman – as they were arriving home just before midnight, King said.
"The two suspects approached them at gunpoint," King said. "They placed their hands in zip ties, and forced the victims into the residence," he said.
"Inside, there was a verbal confrontation, and it turned physical," King said.
The resident was able to get his hands free, King said, "and shot one of the two who tied him up." The man was shot several times, said the chief, and he died at a hospital. The other man fled the scene and is still at large.
Names of the couple are not being released at this time by police.
"From all appearances, it appears he used the suspect's gun. As far as we know there were no weapons in the home," he said.

Don’t know the laws in Pa, but if the victims had the ability to defend themselves, both crooks would be seeing judgement instead of one who will have learned valuable lessons and will be far more dangerous in the future.
I note your return to posting news reports about the bad guys who encounter second amendment folks.

The police gave a very vague description of the assailant who left the scene of the crime: black male, 6’ tall.
His hands were tied and he got free, took the thief's gun and shot him. That takes huge brass b__lls.

Not only that, but he had been shot in the ARM and the LEG before he did it.

More proof cougars are dangerous.
Can you imagine how GOOD you’d feel after that? Tied up with a gun pointed at you by a home invasion robber, then freeing yourself, disarming him, and then blasting the crap out of him with his own gun and driving the other one off into the night?
Wounded or not, I’d dance like Gene Kelly singin’ in the rain.
