The hunt is on for an impartial judge to hear 20 Twin Peaks biker examining trials. The administrative judge for the Waco region has asked a Travis County judge to hear the trials.
This comes after one of the judges was found to be biased by a fellow judge after a hearing on a motion to remove him. The other justice of the peace is accused of saying she is biased.
The Waco Tribune-Herald has reported that the administrative judge of the Third Judicial Region, Judge Billy Ray Stubblefield, said he is waiting to hear from the Travis County judge.

In addition to his motion to remove Judge Peterson, Clint Broden filed a complaint with the State Commission on Judicial Conduct alleging that the JP violated the judicial canons of ethics in how presided over the biker cases.

I admit I supported the initial “haul them all in and sort it out” strategy as I thought it was reasonable take a couple of days to sort out who was involved and who was just present.
Ever since then, every detail that has emerged has shown the judicial system from the cops on up in a very poor light. Be it incompetence or corruption I do not see justice being done here and I am glad someone’s lawyer is starting to push back.
They are acting like a bunch of cats covering $hit! I hope that Whacko has a huge city cash outlay to the bikers at the end of the day. This place needs a serious objective lesson in democracy and what happens when you violate the Constitutional guarantees. I don’t much care for bikers, but I care that even they are afforded the same rights as any other citizen, and they are not shot down by vigilante cops.

It looks to me like the very cynical manipulation of a JP by the police and DA.
But then I probably don’t understand the subtle legal nuances of violating civil and constitutional rights.
The law allows for detention for investigative purposes. That is not what happened in this case. within 48 hours of the incident, all those detained were accused of a felony, put under arrest and held in jail on $1,000,000 bail.
All but three have since paid bail, all but a few for amounts well under a quarter of a million dollars.
There is considerable push back from lawyers. Only a few of the cases are reported in the news. The existence of a gag order (and bail conditions that prohibit association) reduces the amount of public chatter, but in general, it is prudent to wait until the wheels of criminal justice have turned, before making a big stink.

The criminal justice system is about convictions, not about justice.
The JP (and all the other judges), the police and the DA are all on the same team. There is no manipulation.

The legal system is strongly biased in favor of the state in every step of the process, excepting trial. Most of the "legal nuances" express the various reasons that people wrongly accused aren't entitled to any remedy.
I will not be surprised if this incident is used to craft a new legal doctrine that justifies mass false arrest.

I am enthusiastic about clubs like Bikers Against Child Abuse who will set up defensive guards and help people protect their kids from violence (domestic or outside predators) when all law enforcement will give them is a piece of paper. I know several people whom they have helped.
The various antique bike restoration clubs and Christian motorcycle clubs are cool too.
Not all of the clubs at the Confederation Of Motorcycle Clubs An Independents meeting in Waco were the first sort. But we have people on this forum who steadfastly maintain that all motorcycle clubs are fronts for pimps and drug dealers.
Perhaps you have this thread confused with another one?

I am afraid (literally!) that you may be correct.
Don’t be so jaded. The Duke LaCrosse hoax did turn out to have a positive impact rather than a negative fallout.
That was exactly the thing that came to my mind when the enormity of the situation became clear to me.

That isn’t clear as of today. All we have is the Whacko cops assertion that they didn’t start it. We do know that there were LEO “undercover” plants in the mix. Guys who peeled off their colors, put on cop jackets and joined in the shooting! The bikers may have taken shots at each other, but they didn’t pick out the LEOs and start shooting at them. This is not going to turn out well for Whacko! And all this nonsense with the jerks Whacko has for “judges’ is going to cause them further trouble when the bikers lawyers get into high gear.
