Donald Trump: 'I'll ride into the sunset' if my campaign tanks
Business Insider ^ | July 29th, 2015 | By Colin Campbell

Real-estate developer Donald Trump said Tuesday evening that he wasn't worried about the coming Republican presidential primary debate.

When CNN anchor Don Lemon asked Trump whether he was ready for the first rhetorical bout with his GOP rivals, he said he didn't know.

"I have absolutely no idea how to answer that question," Trump told Lemon. "I am me. I don't have pollsters. I mean, I have a lot of money — much more money than all of them put together and all of their phony contributions put together. But, you have to understand, I want to be me."

I think Trump may be making a mistake here.

Even 12hrs of prep with facts a data would serve him well.

Could he be sandbagging?

his mention of “their phoney contributions” pins the tail on the donkey

yea, that headline really captures the context of what he was saying...

Clearly his point is that he’s not going to have people tell him what to say and how to say it the way every other candidate will. He’ll go in being himself and if that’s not good enough to win the election and/or debate then so be it

I like him too but you don’t run your mouth off about how much money you have. It’s really in poor taste. I’ll watch the debates with great interest.

If only McLame and Slick Willie and that doddering fool Carter would do the same.

"his mention of “their phoney contributions” pins the tail on the donkey"

A theme of "bought and paid for" will go a LONG WAY.

I have a lot of money — much more money than all of them put together and all of their phony contributions put together.

SFW. How is this relevant to the debate?

Here’s what I think he meant. I watched his Gretta Van Susteren interview and he said the same thing. From that viewing, I think he meant this.

He doesn’t feel the need to brush up for a debate. He feels that his views are solid enough to merely speak from his core.

That is something I have championed here as I took others to task for not being able to. There were times when President Bush would be presented with an excellent opportunity to educate, but he would either take a pass or offer up comments that missed the mark terribly.

This was evidence that at his core, he did not harbor true Conservative beliefs. Yes, in some ways he could display Conservative ideals, but it was a struggle for him.

If you’re a Conservative, someone can ask you a question on a subject you’ve never heard of before, and know how to respond to it based on the Conservative framework you have come to know and buy into. If you haven’t come to know it, and haven’t bought into it, you can’t.

Trump believes he can. From what I have seen of his presentations and the way he answers questions, I’m beginning to believe him.

As time goes by, we’ll see this confirmed or shot down. Time will tell...

When he says he has lots of money, he wants people to know he did not beg for his money like all the others. As he has said many, many times he made it the old fashion way. He earned it.

People resent him because they cannot do what he has accomplished. Isn’t that the point. You want someone who is outstanding at what he does. He just reminds people this is so.

If he becomes prez, I want him to use his skills to make lots of money for the country. I know without a doubt none of the others Republican or Democrat will make money for the country.

It’s relevant because it says something about his motivations, specifically that he is not beholden to donors and PACs and can therefore speak freely. As he said, he’s going to be himself.

He has spent a lot of time in and survived in a very vigorous REAL arena.

He is absolutely the anti-Obama.

It helps to prep though. Maybe have some numbers and statistics at the ready. I recently listened to a podcast by Stefan Molynuex and the first few minutes he just rattled off the poverty, welfare and labor statistics. It was pretty staggering to hear it laid out, bare bones.

Trump runs purely off of instinct it seems.

The article at the link is interesting.

Kasich’s debate coach is a pompous ass.

Trump’s observations are correct.

It’s always best to be yourself because that’s the only way to be genuine.

Thus far, Mr. Trump has virtually owned the media and he’s owning it “his way, on his terms, no matter what’s thrown at him.”

Isn’t that the truth...

I’d say 99% of the nation is the anti-Obama. They just don’t know it.

If they saw this guy for who he really is, they’d be horrified that they have supported him.

once he gets there, he will say that the sunset sucks, it begged him for an appointment once 5 years ago, and it’s losing money.

Numbers are a funny thing. I’m not sure others look at them like you and I do.

I worked up a study on job creation. I found a baseline average for the 40 years from 1960 to 2000. I found that jobs grew by 9.75% every four years, and 19.50% every eight (on average).

I found that in Bush’s first term jobs fell by 0.03%. It’s the only time I found negative growth in the prior 60 years. In his second term they grew by 0.89%. Job growth under him was 0.86% in two terms. That’s about 18.64% less than the previous average. In Obama’s first term they grew by a paltry 1% (approx).

Thus, a new interesting and very important paradigm had come into existence. The implications were significant. Right now we’re 40,000,000 jobs under where we should be. We know when it started and how severe a problem it is.

Do you know I have posted those results on the forum four or five times, and have gotten almost no response. I’m talking about less than five people expressing interest.

Those are some very interesting numbers, and nobody gives a hoot even here.

So while you and I love numbers, don’t bet that everyone does.

I think people like core instincts, and Trump seems to have a set of them that people are buying into, because they are Conservative in nature.
