Trump tells Union Leader: No endorsement, no show (New Hampshire)

Donald Trump is still not participating in next Monday’s Voters First Presidential Forum in New Hampshire, but now he says it is because he thinks he is unlikely to get the New Hampshire Union Leader’s endorsement and, besides, he thinks there are too many candidates for one event.

Given a deadline of last Friday, Trump’s office had said he would not participate because of a Union Leader editorial critical of him for questioning U.S. Sen. John McCain’s Vietnam war record. At an Iowa event, Trump had disputed that McCain was a “war hero,” saying, “He’s a war hero because he was captured. I like people that weren’t captured.”

But Tuesday, in a letter to Union Leader Publisher Joseph W. McQuaid, Trump wrote: “...knowing you as I do, I feel it is unlikely I will be getting the endorsement from you and the Union Leader. I have made a great fortune based on instinct and that, unfortunately, is my view. Therefore, and for other reasons including the fact that I feel there are too many people onstage to have a proper forum, I will not be attending.”

It is ridiculous to have so many candidates on one stage. What do they really think that is going to accomplish?

Manipulating? He changed them? How could he change them? That makes no sense.

At least he went out and tried to make some money, rather than vote himself into somebody else’s pocketbook.

Whenever anyone mentions how many failed businesses or bankruptcies a person has had, I am reminded that success is not the lack of failure, it is the persistence to move beyond failure. The only people who never fail are those that never really try.

Otherwise known as following the rules to the letter of the law. I can’t stand when people say things like this and “tax loopholes”. These rules were debated over and written with intention. It serves you well to learn the law

Every small business you see having an “everything must go sale” and then reopening under a new name, has made use of the bankruptcy laws. There is no way Trump would have all these entities without bankruptcy coming into play.

Demanding endorsements or else?

The title is misleading.

The newspaper smeared him re: McCain, so he's giving it the same treatment he gave the Des Moines Register.

Trump has little reason to appear with the other candidates at this time.

He is leading in the polls and can garner all the press he needs just by opening his mouth and saying what he thinks. Appearing on stage with one of the others diminishes him and elevates them. He knows this.

This guy is basically a non-Freeper. He has made only a handful of posts in 2015.

Exactly.

Why waste time appearing with candidates who don't stand a chance and why give ratings to a newspaper who has shown itself to twist the news in reporting about him.

Bankruptcy law is there. If you don’t like the set of laws you are (still) free to affect change.

Why do you fault a guy for using laws? Do you also think people like me are manipulating tax laws by not paying more tax than I have to?

Just damn.

And what better way to get even than to boycott their forum and allow them, and the other 15 candidates, to take shots at him without fear of contradiction? Trumps a political genius. </sarcasm>

Fox News has said some negative things about Trump as well, and I highly doubt he will get their endorsement. Maybe he should boycott their debate, too?

Smart move. Gives him a chance to check out the field prior to the big debate, plus he’s way ahead in first place.
