Krauthammer, Brit Hume comes down on Cruz: An act of ‘amazing hypocrisy’ to refuse to attack Trump

Ted Cruz‘s epic battle with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell on the Senate floor flowed onto the Fox News set Monday when two influential personalities called out the Texas senator for not going after Donald Trump in the name of party solidarity — but being willing to attack one of his own party’s leaders.

On Fox News’ “Special Report” Monday, commentator Brit Hume accused Cruz of hypocrisy.

“He insisted his stance was born of fidelity to the so-called 11th commandment, made famous by Ronald Reagan, thou shalt not speak ill of any fellow Republican,” Hume said.

“Two days later, Cruz was on the Senate floor calling Republican leader McConnell a liar,” Hume said. “It may have shown Cruz to be an obvious hypocrite, but for one day, at least, he Trumped Trump, and that means mission accomplished.”

Hume was referring to a floor speech Friday when Cruz accused McConnell of misleading him and other Republicans before a vote involving the Export-Import Bank. The public fight continued during a rare session Sunday, when Cruz was criticized — though not by name — by Utah Republican Sen. Orrin Hatch, the most senior Republican in the body.

Later in the show, conservative columnist and author Charles Krauthammer agreed.

“I think Brit Hume was entirely right that it is an act of rather amazing hypocrisy to refuse to attack Trump on the grounds – and these are the grounds that Cruz invoked – of not wanting to attack another Republican, and then, within a few hours or days, to get on the floor of the Senate and to call your own party’s leader a liar,” he said.

Both analysts called it it a strategic move by Cruz to court Trump supporters if Trump should leave the race.

Cruz is building a campaign based on standing apart from the Washington Republican establishment. When he’s drawing fire from political figures like McConnell and Hatch, and media names like Krauthammer and Hume, he’s standing about as far apart from it as he can get.

Krauthammer sometimes is a pure jackass. Brit Hume is always a jackass.

Hume was the only reporter who gave Ollie North’s testimony a fair shake. Now, he has been a Washingtonian for too long, and he has been consuming their dung for a while now.

Attacking establishment Republicans like McConnell and Hatch helps Cruz.

Not attacking Trump helps Cruz when the Donald falters. (And he will falter at some point.)

I’m surprised Hume Doesn’t understand this.

That's not what Hume was talking about. He recognizes that Cruz is doing what's in his own interest. But he's saying that the principle Ted Cruz invoked to explain why he didn't go after Trump should have kept him from going after McConnell. He may be wrong about that, but to say that Ted was doing what's in Ted's best interest isn't a defense against a charge of hypocrisy. If anything, it supports Hume's charge.

Special Report is becoming a 'reality' show and a joke. Brit stumbles through the news, hemming and hawing, pausing, looking at his laptop and then runs out time in the panel part and then: photo 026a459_zpsyj5fyccj.jpg

Shannon Bream is miles ahead of Brit as a professional Anchor and I’m not saying that because she is drop dead gorgeous, she breezes through the news with time left for the panel and no need for...quickly.

And here I thought the Rinos did not want any nasty name calling yet they are demanding Cruz call Trump names. Old smash mouth Bush is busy pretending he can’t stand all this ugliness.

Has Cruz challenged Krauthammer to debate about it yet?
Series, I think he should make it his standard response to any mudslinging that comes his way here on out.

If memory serves me correctly Bob Dole campaigned for H.W. Bush against Reagan in the primaries.

For years, I've disdained snotty Sour Kraut as well as the human pinstripe, George Will. Throw in sneery, loose-lipped Brit Hume and you have a Triumvirate of snobbery, elitism and lack of common sense.

I admire your perspicuity.

GI back and watch teds speech again. Ted was explaining why he voted for TPA. McConnell lied to him multiple times to get that vote only to shank him when he brought up EX/IM bank reauthorization.

He wasn’t criticising him. He was explaining how he was skanked by the Majority Leader.

If I promise to love and honor my spouce till death due us part, then she runs off with an illegal criminal invader, taking ever dime out of our savings and checking accounts, takes cash advances to max out our CC and I file for divorce stating the reason have I violated my vows?

Mitch through any chance for expectation of honor or benefit of doubt when he lied to the Republican Caucus when he denied there was any deal on TPA/EX-IP Bank...3 times.
And when he said he would allow ALL members a chance to attach amendments to bills while Campaigning last year!

Brit and Charles need to by a box of tampons and wait a week to comment so their emotions don’t impair their thoughts.

Krauthammer also referred to Trump as an "overrated clown".
