Democrats on civil rights: Bullet or bribe? (...history of discrimination, dependency)

Booker T. Washington

In 1857, the Supreme Court, with seven of the nine justices being Democrat, decided that Dred Scott was not a citizen, but property.

Chief Justice Roger Taney, appointed by Democrat President Andrew Jackson, wrote that slaves were “so far inferior … that the Negro might justly and lawfully be reduced to slavery for their own benefit.”

After the Civil War, the 13th Amendment was adopted Dec. 6, 1865, abolishing slavery in America. Once Southern Democrats were forced to free their slaves, they attempted to effectively re-enslave them by passing “Black Codes” and “Jim Crow Laws” which required former slaves to be “apprenticed” to “employers” and punished any who left.

On Nov. 22, 1865, Republicans denounced Mississippi’s Democrat legislature for enacting “Black Codes” which institutionalized racial discrimination.

On Feb. 5, 1866, Republican Congressman Thaddeus Stevens introduced legislation to give former slaves “40 acres and a mule,” but Democrats opposed it, led by President Andrew Johnson. On April 9, 1866, Republicans in Congress overrode Democrat President Johnson’s veto and passed the Civil Rights Act of 1866, conferring rights of citizenship on freed slaves.

To force Southern states to extend state citizenship rights to former slaves, Republicans in the U.S. House passed the 14th Amendment, May 10, 1866, as did the Senate, June 8, 1866. One hundred percent of Democrats voted against it.

The 14th Amendment was adopted by the states on July 28, 1868.

Republican Congressman John Farnsworth of Illinois stated, March 31, 1871: “The reason for the adoption (of the 14th Amendment) … was because of … discriminating … legislation of those States … by which they were punishing one class of men under different laws from another class.”

They found a new way of slavery and oppression in the 1960s; get blacks hooked on welfare, destroy their families and social structure along with any work/study ethic. And all that is expected in return is their vote.

Booker T. Washington would be heartbroken to see what has become of his people today.

Back in the 1960’s the Demos were successful in explaining away their history by saying the racists left their party and became Republicans. No pushback from the the then Republicans so history was distorted for those who didn’t know better.

The GOP-e of the day, the Country Club Rockefeller Republicans, didn’t do themselves any favors, either. They looked at blacks as the waiters and janitors of the country club. At least they made it easy to get painted with that brush. Real conservatives would have given everyone the opportunity to go as far as their talents, ability and work ethic could take them.

The pity is that in the early 1960s, American blacks were starting to take advantage of new opportunities. They were becoming a rising and prosperous middle class, and doing it the right way based on family, church, study and work. Given a generation or two, and Ferguson and Baltimore might not have happened.

But the democrats under LBJ made sure they were herded back on to the plantation.

A critical aspect of this is that the chains which have been forged are primarily spiritual chains. When the chains were made of iron they could be removed by someone else and the Union army did that in 1865. The Democrats learned their lesson and produced legal codes to bind the negroes. And once the courts got rid of those legal chains the Democrats came up with the current form of chains, the economic and social chains, but most of all, the spiritual chains. Those are the chains which no army can rescue one from. And by keeping those chains in place they achieve the highest goal of the Democratic party, the eternal enslavement of the black race.

That is incredibly well put! Couldn't agree more!

BTW, see my tagline and think Obama, Cuba, Iran, Turkey, Iraq, slaver, police states, etc., etc.

Exactly. I don’t understand why so many conservatives lionize the Confederacy and rush to defend the Confederate flag. Those are symbols of Democratic bigotry and hatred.

We should hang them around the Democrats’ necks, not hold them to our hearts.
