Boy Scouts of America Amends Adult Leadership Policy [Openly Gay Leaders Now Allowed]
Boy Scouts of America ^ | July 27, 2015 | Newsroom Blog

On Monday, July 27, the National Executive Board ratified a resolution that removes the national restriction on openly gay adult leaders and employees. Of those present and voting, 79 percent voted in favor of the resolution. The resolution was recommended for ratification by the Executive Committee earlier this month. The resolution is effective immediately.

Chartered organizations will continue to select their adult leaders and religious chartered organizations may continue to use religious beliefs as criteria for selecting adult leaders, including matters of sexuality. This change allows Scouting’s members and parents to select local units, chartered to organizations with similar beliefs, that best meet the needs of their families. This change also respects the right of religious chartered organizations to choose adult volunteer leaders whose beliefs are consistent with their own.

Moving forward, we will continue to focus on reaching and serving youth, helping them grow into good, strong citizens. By focusing on the goals that unite us, we are able to accomplish incredible things for young people and the communities we serve.

Also, today the Boy Scouts of America shared this video of National President Dr. Robert M. Gates speaking on the policy change.

A friend’s letter to the Mormons tonight:

I’m a non-Mormon who has been volunteering for a local The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints-affiliated Boy Scouts of America organization. I was looking for some place to give input to the Church in their upcoming decision regarding the BSA decision on openly gay leaders (see
http://www.mormonnewsroom.org/article/church-re-evaluating-scouting-program). I don’t see anyplace to allow such comments to the Church organization.

In any case, although I am not a member of your church, I’m disheartened by the BSA decision, which I see goes against your beliefs, the safety of the youth, and the future of the organization. I reluctantly urge the Church to cease its 100+ year association the BSA.

I don’t intend to continue my service to youth via the BSA.

Should the Church choose to cease BSA sponsorship and wish my services through some other organization, I’ll be open to that.

Thank you, and be well.

My Eagle Scout card was signed by Nixon too. April 12, 1972. My dad was an Eagle Scout too. My middle son earned 2nd and 1st class so quickly that both were presented at the same Court of Honor. The scoutmaster suggested he should slow down. He did. He left the troop and poured all his effort into a 4.33 GPA, scores of 5 on all AP classes, tutoring AP students and conducting classes at the high school as the "teachers" were incompetent seat warmers.

My annual "Friends of Scouting" donation is over. If "Trail Scouts" turns out to be a worthy replacement, I may push some support that direction.

Can there be any other conclusion than that the left seeks a situation where gay men are given access to boys to molest on camping trips?

Those denominations that have already embraced the homosexual agenda will have no problem with this BSA change (and in fact, when the handwriting was already on the wall previously and churches started cutting off their BSA sponsorship, some of those troops were picked up by other pro-homosexual churches). However, it is now a huge risk for any remaining Bible-believing church. The BSA’s claim that churches will be entitled to an “exemption” is a total set up. The churches will not be exempt from discrimination suits by homosexuals who were rejected from serving as scout leaders.
