LDS Church Re-evaluating Scouting Program (official statement)
lds.org ^ | LDS CHURCH

SALT LAKE CITY — The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints released the following statement today after a vote on a policy change by the Boy Scouts of America National Executive Board to admit openly gay leaders:

“The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is deeply troubled by today’s vote by the Boy Scouts of America National Executive Board. In spite of a request to delay the vote, it was scheduled at a time in July when members of the Church’s governing councils are out of their offices and do not meet. When the leadership of the Church resumes its regular schedule of meetings in August, the century-long association with Scouting will need to be examined....

...Thr admission of openly gay leaders is inconsistent with the doctrines of the Church and what have traditionally been the values of the Boy Scouts of America.

As a global organization with members in 170 countries, the Church has long been evaluating the limitations that fully one-half of its youth face where Scouting is not available. Those worldwide needs combined with this vote by the BSA National Executive Board will be carefully reviewed by the leaders of the Church in the weeks ahead.”

BTW, what data do you have about LDS criminial activity in UT?

Let's start with Lds affinity financial fraud just only going back to 2009 (Did a 3-year study 2009-2012)

Lds members have fleeced over 1 & 1/2 billion from fellow Mormons the past few years alone! Guess what? They initially didn't regret "doing business" with them, either!!!
(2010 Source puts it at over $1.4 billion...and MORE has been uncovered since then!) : Mormons Now Losing Billions to Affinity Fraud

Can you fill me in any other religious sect that has less than 2% of the overall population (1.7%) -- that has launched at least $1.4 billion worth of fraud schemes vs. fellow sect members the past two or three years?

If you only have time to click on one article link below...read this one: JOHN L. SMITH: Thieves in the temple: How 'affinity fraud' hurts LDS church members
Source: Las Vegas Review-Journal, Sept. 12, 2010 Be sure to read the comments of FBI special agent Cameron Saxey (who is Lds)...the article mentions how the Utah jurisdictional Securities Fraud Task Force was working on 100+ cases...meaning that $1.4 billion total doesn't tell it all!

BTW, what data do you have about LDS criminial activity in UT?

Even earlier this year -- March 11, 2015 -- Salt Lake Trib:

Citing high level of fraud in Utah, lawmakers pass white collar crime registry

And, btw, me focusing on it didn't mean it became a "sudden issue" in 2009...The Mormon Church owned Deseret News published this story in 2001:

Utah County is hotbed for white-collar crimes LDS members often seen as easy targets in 'affinity fraud'

Utah County is the Provo area -- home of BYU -- and among the highest % of Mormons county-wise in the entire state of Utah.

I first became aware of high rates of FBI-tracked white- collar crime from its Salt Lake City office when the Tanners began mentioning that LONG ago.

Also, it isn't only white-collar crime:

Utah:
Sexual misconduct pervasive problem among teachers (KSL.com, Oct. 25, 2009)

Quote from this KSL article: SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- State education officials say sexual misconduct by teachers is the No. 1 reason Utah educators are forced to surrender their licenses. Records shows Utah has nearly 20,000 licensed educators. Since 1992, the State Board of Education has suspended or revoked 313 teacher licenses -- 208 of them for sexual misconduct. That number excludes 10 cases still being investigated by the Utah Professional Practices Advisory Commission. The behaviors range from inappropriate touching and downloading pornography on a school computer to full-blown molestation...In 2005, a survey by The Associated Press ranked Utah 16th in the nation for teacher sex offenses based on disciplinary records from 2001 to 2005 in 50 states and the District of Columbia. At that time, 52.7 percent of Utah teachers who lost their licenses surrendered them for sexual misconduct -- twice the national rate, the AP found.
Sexual misconduct persistent in Utah schools (Oct. 25, 2009)
Utah's sexual assault rate outpaces U.S. average (April 6, 2010)

Utah Sexual assault realities:

* Several years ago, KSL reported that there's a reported rape in Utah less than 9.5 hours apart (see http://www.ksl.com/index.php?nid=148&sid=14136899)-- that's up just from 2008 when it was just under a rape per 10 hours...http://publicsafety.utah.gov/bci/documents/CIU%202008%20book%200810.pdf, p. 6

* Per the Utah Bureau of Criminal Identification (see also Utah Department of Health), the 2008 Utah rape rate was 63.7 per 100,000 females vs. U.S. average of 57.4. For entire crime report, see:
http://publicsafety.utah.gov/bci/documents/CIU%202008%20book%200810.pdf

* BTW, 2008 wasn't some “new surge”: Starting in 1991, Utah’s rape rate has consistently inched higher than the national rate. By 2002, Utah ranked 14th in the nation for rapes.
[Source url: http://deseretnews.com/dn/view/0,1249,600125585,00.html] -- and inched to 13th by 2004...http://www.utahfoundation.org/reports/?page_id=290)

* Why has Utah as of the years starting 2000, consistently has ranked between 13 & 18 re: rape rate? (I haven't revisited this stat in recent years)

* Why as of about 10 years ago, Utah was #8 in the nation for its sex offender rate per Nation Master.com

Utah: "...officials are already struggling to house and treat the sex offenders who make up 30 percent of the state's prison population — well above the national average of 12 percent." Source: Tougher laws keep sex offenders behind bars

Woodwell says it's not just Utah. Nationwide, investors decide to buy into a product because they and the seller have something in common. Most often, says Woodwell, that thing is religion.

"Here, it tends to be the Mormon Church," he says. "But if you're in New Mexico, it's the Catholic Church. If you're in Alabama, it's the Baptist Church. So, it's everywhere."

...it's everywhere."

Dang!

Kinda nullifies THIS statement:

Mormons I know & have known tend to live a more virtuous and “morally straight” life than most of us.
