ADDIS ABABA, (CAJ News) – UNITED States President Barack Obama’s visit has been met with contempt by the majority in the continent owing to his country’s recent endorsement of same-sex marriages.
The leader of the most powerful nation in the globe will only make a low-key appearance at the African Union (AU) Headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia in a continent where such marriages are taboo.
He will meet mostly Western diplomats and representatives.
“How can we celebrate a man who advocates a man to marry another man? If it was the president of China, maybe, we would attend because they (Chinese) share African values.
“Most importantly, Chinese have greatly contributed to the construction of the new AU headquarters while the US and its allies only come to bully us for nothing at the same time looting our resources by force,” said Ethiopian activist, Saladin Assefa.
Another Ethiopian activist, Amin Gebre, said Obama’s visit to his country was untimely.
“What does Obama and US visit bring to Ethiopia and AU headquarters? We don’t eat democracy, we don’t eat human rights….to hell with your gays and lesbian campaigns,” Gebre said.
Earlier on in Kenya on Friday, Obama’s visit was met with protests following his government’s endorsement of gays and lesbian marriages.
However, Obama managed to meet his Kenyan counterpart, Uhuru Kenyatta, after more than 10 000 police officers were deployed.
Even African journalists were not allowed closer to the US president as the US police force, military, Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI), marine, spies and military police were in large numbers in Nairobi.
The US’s endorsement of same-sex marriages have not gone down well with African leaders, most prominently the AU Chairman, Robert Mugabe, the Zimbabwean President.
The AU chairman was on record that even “pigs and dogs” knew their partners accusing gays and lesbians of being “worse than pigs and dogs” because they did not know their sex partners.
Prior to Obama’s visit to Kenya and Ethiopia, President Mugabe jokingly said he would travel to the White House and propose to Obama, who lauded a historic Supreme Court ruling that made same-sex marriage legal in all 50 American states recently.
“I’ve just concluded since President Obama endorses the same-sex marriage, advocates homosexual people and enjoys an attractive countenance – thus if it becomes necessary, I shall travel to Washington, D.C., get down on my knee and ask his hand,” Mugabe said in a joke, but serious mocking of gays and lesbians.
He has slammed Obama’s stance previously.
“We have this American president, Obama, born of an African father, who is saying we will not give you aid if you don’t embrace homosexuality. We ask, was he born out of homosexuality?” said at a campaign rally in 2013.

Most African leaders have to concern themselves with feeding their people, so they can’t afford to flush their nations down the toilet in order to appear ‘modern.’
indeed and with all this homosexual crap the divider in chief keeps pushing, one has to ask is he still in the closet or likes men or has been with another guy.
We desperately need some of these African Christians to do missionary work in the USA.
I would understand if the Africans are reluctant to expose themselves to such a vulgar, savage culture.
Whatever anyone thinks about his endorsing gay marriage here, he has to be crazy to travel around Africa endorsing it. Or, of course, maybe he’s doing it on purpose, to undermine American relations with African countries. Africans understandably think this is an American thing, not an Obama thing.
