The bottom line is this, if someone like Trump or Cruz is not running for president, then the DEMs will win yet again. Unless he can portray this as an attempt by the establishment to "keep him out", I think you will hear an ever increasing narrative about Trump being the guy wanting to toss hand grenades from the sideline but being unwilling to enter into substantive debate.
Now we all know that meaningful debate seldom happens in these public debates, but I think that's going to become the story on Trump.
