When President Obama arrived in Oklahoma City on Wednesday, a vulgar sight awaited him: About 10 demonstrators across the street from his downtown hotel waving Confederate battle flags as the motorcade pulled up.

Such a greeting of the nation's first black president would have been appalling under any circumstance. It was all the more repugnant because of what it followed -- last month's black-church massacre in South Carolina -- and by what it preceded: Obama's visit to a prison Thursday to showcase the problem with sentencing policies that have filled our prisons with nonviolent offenders who are disproportionately African-American.

"People of color are more likely to be stopped, frisked, questioned, charged, detained," he told the NAACP last week. "African-Americans are more likely to be arrested. They are more likely to be sentenced to more time for the same crime. ... Around one in nine African-American kids has a parent in prison."

The Atlantic's Ta-Nehisi Coates is clearly an alarmingly aggressive and probably hate-filled racist, and his article is no less ‘hate speech’ than the majority of what has been labeled as such coming from whites. He groups ‘whites’ into one basket, and fails entirely to admit (or maybe realize) that if large numbers of ‘whites’ hadn't voted for Obama he would not have been elected President. He exemplifies the essential hatred of ‘whites’ there is in certain circles. It's not acceptable.

Skin color shouldn't be a focal point anymore in our society, for anything. Some people, however, have a very strong vested interest in ensuring that we don't become colorblind.

and those FBI homicide data are an eye opener.. black-on-white homicides are more than twice white-on-black year after year. Whites outnumber blacks at least six to one.. Somebody had once done a study about the Pilgrims and their descendants. The ones who stayed out of trouble had long lineages of pillars of the community. The ones who didn’t had a lot of progeny who were ne’er do wells.
