The FBI's Misrepresentation of the Change in Mass Public Shootings
Social Science Research Network ^ | March 2015 | John R Lott Jr

Important read, but downloading the paper will get more attention for the research.

An FBI report released on September 16th, 2014 makes the assertion that active shooter attacks and deaths have increased dramatically since 2000 – both increasing at an annual rate of about 16 percent. As the headline in the Wall Street Journal stated: “Mass Shootings on the Rise, FBI says.”

But the FBI made a number of subtle and misleading decisions as well as outright errors. Once these biases and mistakes are fixed, the annual growth rate in homicides is cut in half. When a longer period of time is examined (1977 through the first half of 2014), deaths from Mass Public Shootings show only a slight, statistically insignificant, increase – an annual increase of less than one percent.

The FBI’s misleadingly includes cases that aren’t mass shootings – cases where no one or only one person was killed in a public place. While the FBI assures people that it “captured the vast majority of incidents falling within the search criteria,” their report missed 20 shootings where at least two people were killed in a public place. Most of these missing cases took place early on, biasing their results towards showing an increase.

In all fairness to the FBI, they’ve been under the jackboot heels of two America-hatera since Obonzo moved into the Rainbow Palace.

They can’t be wrong. Didn’t the lyin’ king just tell the bbc that since nine-eleven there have only been about 100 terrorist killings but hundreds and hundreds of killings in the U.S. because of gun violence? Or some such BS exaggeration.

So government misleads and lies. Is that not its special purpose in life ? Any increase in activity lately should be laid right on the white houses door steps. Obama and his minions have been doing everything possible to stone racial strife.

I haven’t heard about that but I believe it. He wants the UN’s blue-helmeted Nazis to come in and disarm the AMERICAN people so he can blame it on them.

Arbitrary dates.

Mass shootings are up since 1968 because self-defense became illegal in so many places.

Does anybody have any example of mass shootings in a public place that have NOT occurred in a Gun Free Zone?

I’ve been havin that discussion on a local news site and none of the liberals have yet to come up with an incident.

Another problem is the difference between “mass shooting” and mass murder.” The definition of mass murder is where four or more people beside the perp lose their life. Sadly, dozens could be shot, but unless 4 or more die, it isn’t mass murder, but the press and the data manipulators try to make it seem so.

There are two.

One is the Giffords shooting in Arizona.

I do not recall the other right off.

at this point of obammy’s presidency I have zero confidence in any part of the federal gubmint.
Especially the f.b.i. cause they lie ALL the time.
Seems this poser has made them and a.t.f. and others as his personal goon squads.

Are they counting Chicago as one mass shooting or are they splitting up the many shootings there?
