There have been occasional situations like that in the 20 years we’ve been homeschooling. I sympathize with parents who have a child that they just can do anything with. Virtual public school or other online instruction can be a solution in some cases, where the student has a psychological or physical issue that makes school attendance impossible. However, sometimes there’s just nothing to be done.
Thanks, ToT. It’s really sounding to me as if the oldest son was on some sort of psychiatric drugs. Eventually a defense attorney will be coming up with something, I suppose.
They certainly seem to have been an unsocial family: no friends in the neighborhood or at work, no church, no relatives other than a sister of (iirc) the father.
(can’t)
It is a win win for the NEA. Get rid of some trouble makers and if they continue to screw up, make homeschooling look bad.
Yep.
Five murder charges filed, teens have pled not guilty. Hearing scheduled for October 28.
Wow. What story will they possibly invent to back up that plea? No doubt they’ll claim abuse, etc.
Mental illness? Maybe that’s when psychoactive drugs will come out.
I don’t think a claim of abuse would get them out of Murder One on the younger siblings. Also, if there were any physical indications of abuse of the dead siblings or the survivors, the “Daily Mail” would probably have reported it.
I've said some wrong things in the past...but that was just wrong.
Yeah...a mansion!!
I think it has a lot of bedrooms. There were several examples of a six-bedroom house, similar to that, in our subdivision in B.A.
Yeah, the insanity defense wouldn’t be surprising. Even if they have no history of mental illness or psychoactive drugs, their lawyers still might argue they were driven to insanity through isolation... or something.
Or maybe each teen is going to claim that the other one forced him to participate.
Whatever happens, I hope they don’t get away with this crime.
And let’s not forget those weirdos who join with radical feminists in equating male and female sexuality.
I agree ... and since it’s Oklahoma, they probably won’t.
Just doesn't look like a mansion...by my standards. Not even near close..........
I understood. Not a luxury house, either ... just pretty big.
Latest update:
The two killers stored plans for a “mass homicide” on a computer flash drive, and their motive allegedly was to “gain control of the residence”:
http://www.krmg.com/news/news/local/documents-released-bever-family-slayings/nnFNg/
Apparently, there were two 911 calls to the residence three years ago, but not much info on those calls is given:
This is so sad. What a nightmare for those poor children.
Thanks for the information. There probably won’t be much until the plea hearing in October.
I suppose it’s a sign of the times that their “plans” were on a digital storage device instead of in a paper notebook.
It turns out, the children always were homeschooled, according to the mother's online communication.
The family was known to be involved in Rhema Church (?).
Based on the mother's online communication, she was very loving. She even talked about how homeschooling enabled her to have a close relationship with the oldest child. :-( On Facebook, she followed "Dayna Martin," an advocate for permissive parenting (?), so the mother might not have been as strict as her neighbors believe.
Also, according to her online comments, the mother had to put locks on an A/C unit because she thought kids in the neighborhood were tampering with it. Based on that information, one poster theorized that maybe these two sons were huffing Freon.
And, finally, a coworker of the 18yo talked with a reporter.
Okay, I'm done. I promise not to continue posting about this case. I just can't fathom what went wrong.
I’m familiar with the Rhema Church. It’s a very large group led by Kenneth Hagin, a well-known Pentecostal minister. (We went there once for the Christmas lights display.)
