Mapped: Why Obama was right and America does have a serious gun problem
The Telegraph ^ | 24 Jul 2015 | James Rothwell

Posted on 07/24/2015 10:12:24 PM PDT by MinorityRepublican

This week a lone shooter stalked into an American cinema and opened fire at random, killing two people and wounding seven before turning the gun on himself. It is the latest in a string of massacres in the United States that has reignited the debate on gun control, with Obama admitting on Thursday that his government has failed to tackle the problem.

"If you look at the number of Americans killed since 9/11 by terrorism, it's less than 100. If you look at the number that have been killed by gun violence, it's in the tens of thousands," he told the BBC. "For us not to be able to resolve that issue has been something that is distressing."

But how does the rate of firearm murders in the United States stack up against the rest of the world? The results are somewhat surprising.

The rate of gun murders per 100,000 people in the United States 3.55, a figure dwarved by the rate per capita of Columbia (27.1) and South Africa (17) to name just two.

Bingo. If you look at the latest FBI homicide stats, we have 13% of the population committing 50% or so of the murders.

Its not even 13%; rather, its a small subset of that amount -- black males under the age of 40.

And the maps showing murders by other means?
Say, the one highlighting Rwanda and machetes?
Our the maps showing murders by other status?
Say, the one highlighting 100000000 murders by socialist governments?
Oh, just focused on one tool and one status. As if murder by any other means is o.k.

I would, of course, suggest something a bit more extreme...

I’m having a ‘Rothwell moment’ right now.

He “moves” me so.

Yes, Hispanics and blacks make up the bulk of the US homicide offenders. I once went through the data for places which broke out the Hispanic offenses to get the white-non-Hispanic rate, and it was about the rate for Europe as a whole.

The US is a multi-ethnic society, and our crime rates reflect the crime rates of the component ethnic groups.

It's essential for the anti-gunners to use "gun-murder" rates because otherwise the numbers aren't nearly as good for them.

Yes, he notes "The United Kingdom enjoys one of the world's lowest rates of gun homicides, at just 0.05 per capita, while Hong Kong, Japan and South Korea recorded a rate of zero".

Looking at the total UK homicide rate is 0.9. Meanwhile, among Asian countries, we have Taiwan at 3.0, Thailand at 5.0, India at 3.5.

Russia's homicide rate is 9.2, which is a reason why anti-gun authors are so careful to only look at north-western Europe for their statistics.

Sure, America has a gun problem.

Let’s consider a few things.

Where are most of the weapons concentrated. I would argue that the most heavily armed is the countryside/suburbia and where the fewest gun crimes occur.

Where do most of the murders/gun crimes take place? In the cities with the highest level of gun control.

Until these to opposing things are reconciled there is nothing else to discuss.

Notice he only compares "gun murders," not "murders". That's because people who are killed by guns are much deader than those killed by knives, clubs, or fists. /s

Also because his argument falls apart if you look at all murders, and falls apart worse if you look at violent crime in general.

I think he means “killed by violent people...”

Who are most likely to be Black! ...murdering other Blacks.

But we can't talk about that.

The USA has a higher murder rate (all methods) than most other developed nations. It would be unusually odd if our gun murder rate was NOT also higher.

If you remove the leftist run, “gun free,” utopian hell-holes, like Chicago, from the numbers, the crime rate is especially low in the USA.

Notice every reference to death is in terms of “GUN” deaths. Of course if you take guns away from law abiding citizens there will be fewer gun deaths.

But what this subject of the crown has neglected to notice is total homicide rates in the US is dwarfed by the same of those socialistic european countries. Also missing is any reference to crime statistics in general, and if you take out the gun crime in the usually highly gun restricted inner cities in the US we are near the bottom of the crime rate list. Ever hear of a “hot” break in, where bat and knife wielding thugs invade an occupied home in the US? Ask Madonna about that when she was residing one evening in the UK.

As usual, the left uses a little truth out of context and tries to make a case that doesn’t exist.

Majority of ‘gun deaths’ are suicides, by a large margin. Never mentioned.

The fashionable PC now is to leave Islamic influences out of any beratings. I wonder how many are murdered in the UK if Islamic murderings are included in murder stats? Forget weapon correlations, just look at murders. The UK has grown a mooseslime problem, and the disease is spreading world-wide.

The writer was given an assignment, to write a negative article on ‘guns and their menace to society’. The masters of this fool writer own him and know it, so they can make these assignments with zero truthful reasoning behind them, for the masters belong to the father of lies a murderer from the start. he purchased their souls long ago, now he directs them in the world.

Note the pushing of the “gun violence” meme.

The place the emphasis on the object in order to mislead. It frames the argument as about guns instead of about actions. It is intentionally decietful.

The numbers should be about total murders, not “gun violence”. If “gun violence goes down, but total murders go up, there has not been any positive effect.

I can stop all “hospital deaths” by banning hospitals, but it will increase the overall death rate.
