Mike Lee goes for nuclear option to repeal Obamacare
Washington Post ^ | July 24, 2015 | By Kelsey Snell

Senate conservatives couldn’t stop a vote on the Export-Import bank. So they’re going to try to force a vote on Obamacare instead.

Conservative firebrand Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) announced on Friday that he plans to use a complicated procedural maneuver known as the nuclear option to repeal the Affordable Care Act with just 51 votes.

Democrats famously used the strategy in 2013 to break a Republican blockade of President Obama’s nominees to fill judicial openings. Now Lee wants to use the partisan procedure get rid of Obamacare.

It’s unclear whether Lee’s gambit will work — but if it does, there are likely 51 senators who would vote to repeal Obama’s signature domestic achievement. The issue is whether such language can get a vote on the Senate floor to begin with.

Here’s where things get complicated.

The real conservatives are getting feisty!!

I can’t help but think some of this is in the wake of Trump calling people out and the usual media onslaught not working to shut him up.

A successful vote to repeal before January 2017 will be vetoed and would be simply a symbolic gesture.

It is still all posturing. McConnell will not vote for it nor will he allow a vote.

If there were a vote to drop the mandate but keep Obamacare for those who want it, next to nobody could vote against it and be re-elected.

Until that happens, we're just all "pawns in their game".

There is no way, absolutely no way on earth, that Mitch McConnell allows a vote on this. He’ll shut down the Senate, call in the army, whatever he needs to do to prevent it.

This is political theater, nothing more, nothing less. We need to concentrate on winning back the White house in ‘16. As long as the Dummies hold it we can stage all the votes we want. All we are doing is wasting paper and ink.

The thing I don’t understand, after years of watching Republicans fight the Democrat controlled Congress. Why can’t they get 60 votes to bring legislation the Democrats don’t like to the floor to be approved by Republicans on a party line vote? Don’t the Democrats know how this is supposed to be done? They are supposed to allow votes on extreme legislation, then taunt their voters with, “Elections have consequences.” I really wish our Republican leadership would take them aside and straighten them out.

Yep. How many votes have they already had? There were so many I’ve lost count.

That makes 2 voices.

Where are all the rest of the congress critters.

How about repealing the exemption that THEY get?

At least we have one worthwhile Senator in UT.

The first Republican senator in a thousand years from Arkansas turned out to be basically a dud. He did replace Blanche Lincoln (D), but most hardly notice much difference.

The second Republican senator, who dethroned Mark Pryor (D), seems to be of the conservative firebrand persuasion.

One out of 2 isn't too bad.

Thank you for referencing that article Oldeconomybuyer. Please bear in mind that the following critique is directed at the article and not at you.

Simply put, lawless Obama is going to predictably veto any bill that repeals Obamacare.

Also, as a consequence of the 17th Amendment, regardless that low-information patriot voters have had three election cycles to build a 2/3 Senate majority which has the constitutional authority to stop Obama in his tracks, voters have failed to do so. So it’s unlikely that both Houses of Congress will find the 2/3 majority votes necessary to override Obama’s veto of any bill that repeals Obamacare.

So other than an approaching election year, I don’t see why Senators McConnell and Lee are so excited about repealing Obamacare.

What am I overlooking?

The stagey might just be to repeal or to expose the criminal elites. Trump, Cruz and Lee are working a coordinated effort to take down the Rino elites in the senate. That sound you hear is Mitch McConnell’s future circling the drain.
