Ted Cruz calls Mitch McConnell a liar on the Senate floor
WashPo ^ | 7/24/2015 | M. Debonis

Firebrand Republican senator and presidential candidate Ted Cruz on Friday rushed across a line rarely crossed on the Senate floor: He called the leader of his party, Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, a liar.

"What we just saw today was an absolute demonstration that not only what he told every Republican senator, but what he told the press over and over and over again, was a simple lie," Cruz said Friday morning. "We know now that when the majority leader looks us in the eyes and makes an explicit commitment, that he is willing to say things that he knows are false. That has consequences for how this body operates."

Prompting Cruz's outburst: McConnell's move to set up amendment votes on a must-pass transportation bill. After senators voted to consider the bill, McConnell (R-Ky.) set up votes on two controversial measures -- a repeal of the Affordable Care Act, and a reauthorization of the Export-Import Bank of the United States -- and did it in such a way that will make it difficult for other amendments to be considered.

That move incensed Cruz -- who, like many conservatives, strongly opposes the bank's reauthorization, though it enjoys support from a supermajority of his Senate colleagues. While McConnell has personally spoken against Ex-Im reauthorization, Democrats said in June he had agreed to schedule an Ex-Im vote in order to get highly divisive trade legislation passed.

But McConnell at the time denied that any deal had been made, and Cruz said the same assurance was given in a private Republican conference meeting.

"Like Saint Peter, he repeated it three times," Cruz said Friday.

Nope. Not Amazing. Not shocking. Not anything but par for the course on FR and every other conservative site. It’s the reason Conservatism loses. It’s lousy with liberal garbage.

Inevitable. Dare I say...Obvious.

Get rid of the libs and we can actually accomplish the job of getting conservatives into power. Leave them here and we remain divided.

Suspect all you want. My posting history is clear.

Many of us did know. We follow the polls and knew that Democrats were defending the most seats in 2014. We also knew the Democrats who retired and who was winning the open seats. The numbers were obvious.

You can also search my weekly election statistical probability forecasts for the past elections.

We knew.

I also “enjoy” the FReepers who initially praise the legal talent of Cruz, only to say he belongs as atty general under a GOPe Chamber of Commerce whore. I just now slapped one on another thread : )

Ted Cruz is either free of any dirt that can be used against him or he’s stupid.

There is a third option. Ted Cruz is a normal man with some mistakes in his past. However, he is an honest man and a brave man who has said, like Admiral Farragut, "Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead!"

He has decided to do what is right, no matter what is thrown at him.

I’m not convinced Lundergan would have been an improvement over McConnell - what infuriated me is that the sell-out republicans voted the idiot back into the senate leadership position.

You aren't grasping my point. There was NOTHING more important than sending a message to the Washington Establishment by gutting McConnell. NOTHING.

Whatever votes Allison Lundegren's might have made, DO NOT MATTER in terms of importance when compared to the seriousness of what needed to be done.

When McConnell turned traitor, that seat *NEEDED* to be lost to a Democrat, and I don't care if it was Barney Frank or Barack Obama, the point is that if we do not chop off traitors heads, then we have no power, and likely never will.

Trying to measure Lundergan against McConnell is missing the point. McConnell tried to destroy us. He attacked us. This leaves the only reasonable course to be the destruction of him. Mark my words, we are not done ruing the day that McConnell slithered back into power.

Unfortunately Mitch and all the rest won’t suffer anything......even though Cruz made it clear I do not see any outcry from the rest....they’re like leeches on the American people.

....”have any of the senators confirmed or backed this up?”....

Why would they?......they certainly aren’t going to put their necks out there.
