EXCLUSIVE: Entire US national security system possibly compromised by year-long cyber-assault
Fox News ^ | 07/23/2015 | By George Russell

Posted on 07/23/2015 9:33:20 AM PDT by SeekAndFind

The prolonged hacking into the White House Office of Personnel Management, which put the personal information of at least some 21.5 million past and current federal employees in jeopardy, is only the beginning of the security threat to the Obama Administration and its successors, a number of top-level experts in cybersecurity have told Fox News. The attack has been frequently sourced as coming from China.

The experts warned that the entire U.S. national security clearance system could be compromised, that future senior government leaders and advisors could be targeted even before taking office, and hundreds, perhaps thousands, of government officials might successfully be blackmailed, bribed or otherwise manipulated in the future into handing over still more sensitive information.

The identity disaster could also weaken the U.S. in any time of military confrontation: “If we choose to engage in conflict, we are in a much weaker position,” one expert concluded.

The threat could include intruders already in the government whose security credentials were stealthily enhanced during the OPM intrusion, which may have lasted a year before it was detected last April.

“There may be people walking around with higher levels of clearance than they should have,” said one of the experts. “I believe the entire national security apparatus is now at risk. It’s mind-boggling.”

“It’s the digital equivalent of Pearl Harbor,” another expert told Fox News. “Because people don’t see the carnage, they don’t recognize that this is the equivalent of an act of war. This is about espionage—Cold War tactics in the modern digital age.”

The experts consulted by Fox News were former government officials with deep knowledge of federal information systems and experience with national security issues, who had worked in top positions in both the Obama and George W. Bush administrations.

I’m sure a large part of the problem is the same one that businesses deal with too, too many workers with a password of “password” or variations that include a number less than 99 added to the end of it.

If they simply removed access to these systems from outside the offices, that would solve a lot of their problems.

If they wont follow the rule on one network what do you think the chances of them following the rules on two networks is?

” Know anybody who keeps the Ten Commandments?”

Since when should any trust others in the workplace...be it government positions or otherwise...I never do..and always consider they are not my “friends” they are my co-workers and that’s it.

Pass words are not the issue...human nature is. As all foreign business leaders, and those who operate on the business stage do say...”every one has a price”.

“It was an inside job.”

That would now garner absolute loyalty to this administration now wouldn’t it?

Leave this administration and your no longer useful...you’ll suffer allogations and character assassinations, true or false, alone. Serve as an example even.

Another inside deal at the Obama regime. They have delivered every national security secret to our enemies and will walk free.

The data system wasn't "hacked". It was purposefully compromised by this Administration through the letting of government contracts. The contract OPM gave contractors to work the data system included Red Chinese programmers who were given root access to the data.

They've got it all. All of it. Basically, we gave them access and even paid their agents to access it.

This is nothing less than a criminal breach of national security aided and abetted by our own government.

Are you saying the MSM's protecting China now too? Or just the usual lying filthy traitorous democrats?

That would make sense, as they are all communists/fellow travelers.

Chinese nationals — while living *IN CHINA* — were given root access to some systems while working for subcontractors.

Go look it up elsewhere in the political right-leaning side of the web.
But you can find it everywhere from Breitbart to BusinessInsider to ArsTechnica.

This is literal treason.

Covered with diversity sauce.

Given the left’s penchant for pedantry with words (see various recent Supreme Court decisions, all the back to Bubba’s “it depends on what the meaning of the word ‘is’ is”)...

“cruel and unusual punishments” are forbidden.

So if impose cruel punishments, but make them common, it’s no longer “cruel *AND* unusual” is it?

Hell, we could even force them to listen to taped speeches of Teh One stuttering on a repeating loop ... (like that 7 minute loop Rush Limbaugh did) ...24x 7 until they crack.

Then dress them up like a fetus and let Dr. Nucatola have a crack at them...

The ‘hacking’ of OPM is the only thing the public is allowed to know, as it is too big even for msm to hide.

Wonder whatever happened to the data inside...

Another reason to vote for Trump. If you blackmail him he’d probably find a way to make money off it.

We are under attack. Our government in concert with multi-national corporations gave our enemy (communist China)America's sensitive technology, machine tool, manufacturing, intellectual property by outsourcing the American economy. This IS a national security threat.

Furthermore, our governments monumental fiscal mismanagement, relentless borrowing from China has place our economy in dire straits. China has the ability to wreck our economy. Their economy will in turn suffer as well, but the Chinese will rally behind nationalism while America will be absolutely caught off balance.

Communist China has been buying their time, building their military, anti-ship, anti-sattelite technology for what they believe is an eventual war against the United States and it's allies. This will be very ugly for us.

China wants Taiwan. China wants control over the entire South China sea region. When they pull the trigger, we will be at a disadvantage in many areas. We could potentially see attacks on our soil as well. China knows the U.S. population is totally unprepared for an event like this. Americans think such a thing is impossible, but it's not.

A story came out a couple of years ago reporting Chinese manufactured electronic components were being installed in some of our missile systems that had back doors that enabled our enemy to shut down or send them astray. The article indicated they were attempting to purge these components. My guess, it is wide spread and likely we will not realize the size and scope.

Simply astonishing we’d open ourselves to such danger.
