As if we need more proof of how tone deaf and self-destructive GOP elites can be towards their most reliable voters, the New York Times reports that at a weekend meeting of the Republican Governors Association there was an attempt by some “donors and operatives” to come up with a plan to bar current Republican frontrunner Donald Trump from the presidential debates.

The Republican Party has lost the popular vote in 4 of the last 5 presidential elections. The only election won was the re-election of a sitting president (Bush in ’04) during a time of war. Not only are these geniuses still in charge, these geniuses seem to believe that disenfranchising 25% of Republican primary voters (Trump’s support in the most recent national poll) through elite shenanigans is a smart strategy.

I agree, but that isn’t what the audience is going to want to see. They will tune in in record numbers to see “The Apprentice.”
Of course they planned a win win election of Hillary vrs Jeb Bush. Donald has ruined everything! The only way now to get their win win election back on track is to push Trump out of the GOP. He’s probably go third party but they don’t care. Anything to stop Trump.
Barring Trump from the debates will only marginalize the debates. I hope that not only is Trump barred but that Cruz and Walker and maybe Carson will decline. That would thin the herd to the best.
That is a given by now and has been since before Reagan.
The focus never was on what he said, only what the political elites deem “offensive.” With the exception of Cruz, I have not heard one person address the substance of what Trump said.
You’re right about the motives of the “audience” with respect to what draws them there. Trump will get a bump from it. However, I expect with what Cruz could and likely would do will bump his numbers up also. The losers will be the fence sitters and the establishment RINOs who try to pass off some sort of immigration reform/amnesty/pathway/higher-standard crap.
Then I can tape the debate, and have an instant cure for insomnia.

McConnell and Boener are guaranteeing that whoever wins the Presidency he will have a solidly Democrat Congress. Hussein has a solidly Democrat Congress now but some of the Reps and Sens call themselves Republicans.

I want them to try and to succeed. The whole debate thing is a distraction that diminishes everyone involved when there are more than two contestants. Kicking Trump out will diminish the debates and their propensity to do harm.
Trump would buy the TV time against them and debate cardboard cutouts (it would be hard to tell then from the real ones anyway) and draw double their ratings. Cuidado Fox. Be VERY careful there RNC whoever you are you could blow the whole election down ticket all the way to the dog catcher level and put a pant suit in the oval office.
They intentionally confused/obfuscated the “illegal” aspect and subsumed it to “immigrant,” a position from which they could haughtily and self-righteously argue.
If it weren’t for the real reasons: Democrat votes and RINO cheap labor, they wouldn’t have any other reason - illegals certainly don’t bring any substantive productive value with them - only problems and trouble. But the prize for them is just way to damned big! Imagine 50 million new Democrat votes.
Cruz would carry Texas for Trump, and the rest of the South including Florida.
A Trump/Cruz 2016 ticket could easy carry the Midwest, and split up the North East. New York would most likely go to Trump.
Finally, I would say California would be a toss up between Trump and Hillary.
Nevertheless, a Trump/Cruz 2016 wins weather it’s a GOP ticket of an Independent.
Jeb would have lost since he is a set up fall guy.
It would certainly be a set back for the Establishment/Globalist.
They know this, and it’s why they are attempting to get Trump out.

Let’s be honest. He would have to have a MASSIVE bump. He’s at anywhere from 4-8%. So he’s going to have to triple his numbers.

I don’t know why they want to ban Trump. The debate format isn’t his friend. The format of allowing a minute or two for answers and 30 seconds or whatever for rebuttals is not one he’s going to do well in. He has a problem staying on message without branching off onto ego-driven tangents. So I think the debate could cut his Republican nomination aspirations short, and hasten him towards his inevitable third-party run.
