COBB COUNTY, Ga. —
Cobb County is telling a Kennesaw family to apply for permission to park their kids' cars in their own driveway.
The Oviedo family got a notice of violation for having four cars in the driveway. The family has relatives visiting and two kids home from college.
"I am angry. I am beyond angry. I don't see how the government can tell me whose cars I can park in my own driveway," said Kim Oviedo.
They got a visit Friday from code enforcement, acting on an anonymous complaint. The neighborhood is zoned an Open Space Community. A recent rule changed, and enacted a limit of two cars parked in the drive.
"The fact that my kid's home from college and now I'm a law breaker I guess," said neighbor Mark Talley, who has three cars for the summer too.
"I love Cobb County. I love living here and generally I'm a fan of what we do, but it seems to not make a whole lot of sense."
After Channel 2 consumer investigator Jim Strickland got the county on the phone, officials decided to let the issue slide this summer, but put the family on notice next summer would require a permit to park four cars in the driveway.
"I'm having to pay to park on a property that I already pay tax on," said Oviedo.

Very true, but I don't think I have ever seen a three car garage with three cars in it, nor a "two car" garage with two cars.
I fully agree with most that the law is stupid and that the neighbor who called it in is a petty A-hole. But what are their choices right now?
Fight the law costing them time money and aggravation, or clean out the garage?
BTW, it is mentioned that these people did not know that the ordinance was changed. The time to fight crap like that is when they are trying to change it. I would vote to clean out the garage.
I would imagine you’ll find a lot of support from “the law is the law” crowd.

You’re right. However, you haven’t seen mine. I have Silverado pickup, a Cadillac SRX and a 2004 Corvette that all park inside all the time. :) Mine would be the exception probably :)
You agreed when you moved in. The HOA gave you a copy of the rules and you signed it. That is America. We have the right to make the rules for our community and live by them.....for now.
After reading article, it is the County Zoning rules that he is breaking. In that case, pay attention to whom you vote for in County elections and go to zoning meetings, and take some friends with you.
It is not a big deal down south to leave your cars outside. However, up here in NH we like to park in the garage in the winter so that you do not have to clean snow or ice off your car before you leave for work in the morning.
In the summer, my garage doubles for a workshop for whatever project I currently have going. Right now there is vinyl fence on my wife’s side. Lately, I have been parking my truck in the garage because these stupid juvenile BLUEBIRDS keep roosting on the side view mirrors of my truck. Then when the take off they drop their poop down the side of my Tacoma.
Plenty of “so-called” conservatives support this nonsense. Check out any thread about HOA’s.
The people who passed this law, have no older children, family and friends who might come over for dinner or a party.
Because they are just plain stupid or it could be that illegals are packing houses with five families and over parking in the neighborhoods. So everyone has to suffer that rule caused by foreigners who don’t even belong here in the US.
Sure they are, only.....this wasn’t anything to do with an HOA, so what’s your point?
ahh, but THAT law is not enforced. Just this one, apparently. (or next year it will be)
