Yup, politics. They could find people to cut in the Park & Recs department, especially with the drought going on they don't need to water so much. They could cut services to the homeless, or free drugs and prophylactics that the health department hands out. Better yet, they could send a bunch of clerks and accountants a layoff notice, because they aren't doing much good at City Hall.
I think she is working on recording country music CD.
In SF, they’re always talking about budget deficits and demanding higher taxes and “fees”. But how do they run the city? They remove center dividers that were formerly all concrete, replace them with new dividers containing soil and then plant high maintenance plants and trees. Totally unwarranted, except they have to hire more people in Park & Recs to maintain them. They did this on 19th Avenue, absolutely crazy. Same thing around the city, planting trees on sidewalks that later cause problems. It’s all about making work for employees, not about maintaining infrastructure. People are ripping out lawns and replacing them with low maintenance stones and concrete; the city does the opposite, installing plants that suck water and need maintenance. I imagine Oakland is the same way, wasting taxpayer funds.
A former co-worker actually moved to San Francisco because he wanted to! He has to live with 2 others to afford the $2,400/month rent. He has to park in the street as there is no parking garage or lot.

Hmmm, maybe Oakland will approach Baltimore in the murder rate. I think Chicago may be a stretch but we shall see.
I pay just over $600/month in my city and both the County Sheriff and police chief know me by name.
Police respond for almost any theft, dispute or concern. ...and they take things seriously since crime isn’t rampant.
There is value in living in a relatively small town.
Sounds like Chicago.
So, can we assume that the number of motor vehicle citations will plummet since the city PD is so short of manpower?
