The John Kasich record
Yahoo Political News ^ | 7/21 | Jon Ward

Here’s one reason Ohio Gov. John Kasich is running for president, becoming the 16th Republican to do so: His home state has 18 electoral votes and is a must-win for anyone from his party who hopes to win the White House. Ohio, in fact, is known as a maker of presidents. Eight of America’s 44 presidents have been from Ohio, and the last person to win the presidency without winning Ohio was John F. Kennedy, in 1960.

Kasich, 63, is counting on that history and hoping it gives him an automatic leg up on other midtier candidates seeking the Republican presidential nomination, thanks to his relatively strong approval rating there.

I have to admit, I don't know much about this man but I guess I'll have to learn. There seems to be a lot of hype around "#16".

What do you Freepers think of him? Any Ohioans out there?

Wasn’t Kasich a party pal of Joe Scarborough when they were both in the H.O.R?

Mark Levin despises John Kasich, and Mark ALWAYS has good reasons.

Call many voters are unwilling to forgive the 1994 Assault Weapons Ban. I was willing to look past it since he has not done anything the curb gun rights in Ohio. However he does have a big current problem with his stance on the government's role in social engineering.

Substituting a larger Medicaid program is not a solution to Obamacare. Expanding entitlements is the last thing we need right now.

He’s also bought into a lot of idiotic GOP - e notions about campaigning and how to win (lose).

I grew up with John. Nice guy, but a liberal Republican on most issues. However, he has been credited with getting the state of Ohio out of financial difficulty — well, at least according to some.

Kasich can balance a budget which is sorely needed, but there's the bad with the good. Medicaid expansion as governor and the AWB in the house.

I'll vote for Cruz or Walker before Kasich, although I'd vote for Kasich over Trump because he didn't donate to Hillary, Reid, or Pelosi.

I live in a near-Cleveland small, pretty well run town. As with many towns, the local government is being starved while the state government hogs all of the money and spends it on construction projects that enrich donors.

If you want concentration of wealth and power upward, away from the people, Kasich is your guy!

PS: the only reason for Kasich's "impressive win" for second-term as governor is that the dem opponent was so bad they couldn't have chosen a worse one if they tried. All it proved is that (1)a majority of people are paying attention and (2) Romney should've campaigned for the votes of the lower 47.

Ohio Gov. John Kasich is running for president, becoming the 16th Republican to do so:

***************

Kasich may have filed the paperwork to run for the GOP nomination to run for
president but there are many more than 16 that have done likewise.

The number is over 100 and most of them have no chance of being elected but they
have begun the process. To see the listing of those that have filed the FEC Form 2

He was the guy that Newt choose to balance the budget back in 94 and he did balance the budget. I used to be very fond of him but he has rifted into GOPe RINO territory lately.

It’s a shame. His previous experience in Congress and current position as governor of an important state are qualifications many voters seek for the job. A more conservative record would’ve made him a formidable candidate.

Cincy here...he’s pro commie core and immigration and Medicare expansion...he’s compassionate conservative and believes his legal theft is biblically-driven/based.

Fitzgerald was a terrible Dem candidate. In 2014, it seemed like the Dem party leaders of OH, TX, and MD were fighting to pick the worst one.

He’s pro-illegal alien.

That’s enough for me to remove him from consideration.

Over the last few years, EVERY time I’ve seen a news story involving Kasich, it’s about him surrendering on an issue of extreme political importance to me (obamacare, amnesty, homo-marriage, etc.). He seems to epitomize, in his own uniquely bland way, the kind of GOP-er I’ve grown to have nothing but total contempt for.

I don't think "conservative" applies in any way, shape or form to that guy... From my prospective here in Southern Ohio he's just about liberal as they come....

MHO....

Yes it would have...I gave an interview this morning on radio and said that if he was the same guy who reformed Cleveland as mayor, he’d be a big time competitor. But he’s not that man anymore.

His home state has 18 electoral votes and is a must-win for anyone from his party who hopes to win the White House.

As I recall, there were quite a few allegations of VOTE FRAUD in Ohio(along with EVERY other "swing state") in 2012.

What has Reince Pribus and the GOP done to prevent that in 2016? My guess: What they do best - ABSOLUTELY NOTHING>
