The President is not going quietly into that good night and lame duck isn’t on the menu as far as he’s concerned. Barack Obama’s next fourth quarter play seems to be an attempt to go around congress and restrict the Second Amendment rights of millions of Americans based on data in the Social Security system. Specifically, if you are someone collecting benefits who has their payments handled by another family member or third party, you could find your information being turned over to the feds and your gun rights suspended. The Obama administration wants to keep people collecting Social Security benefits from owning guns if it is determined they are unable to manage their own affairs, the Los Angeles Times reported.
The push, which could potentially affect millions whose monthly disability payments are handled by others, is intended to bring the Social Security Administration in line with laws that prevent gun sales to felons, drug addicts, immigrants in the United States illegally, and others, according to the paper.
The language of federal gun laws restricts ownership to people who are unable to manage their own affairs due to “marked subnormal intelligence, or mental illness, incompetency, condition, or disease” – which could potentially affect a large group within Social Security, the LA Times reported.
So the basic assumption here is that if you are a Social Security recipient (read: an old person) and someone else handles the receipt and disbursement of your benefits then you must be … what? Incompetent? On the list of disqualifiers being cited here that seems to be the only one which would come close to applying. And based on that – even if there’s never been any question raised about you and you’ve never been so much as accused of a crime – your constitutional rights would be suspended. Well, that certainly sounds fair, doesn’t it?
This sounds eerily similar to certain provisions of New York’s detestable SAFE Act, where large swaths of people are lumped together in a generalized category and then disarmed. In New York, anyone who has ever sought therapy or been issued a prescription drug for “depression” can find themselves on a similar list and are then faced with the daunting and expensive prospect of going to court to prove they are not crazy. In this case, one assumes that a senior citizen might be able to go to court and attempt to prove that they’re not incompetent, but how many Social Security recipients can afford that?
We’re not talking about a small number of people here, either. There are currently more than 4 million people in the United States who fall into that category. I’m sure it’s possible that some of these people are truly mentally impaired, but wouldn’t their family, guardians or medical professionals be in the best position to make such a judgement? Or shouldn’t someone at least have to file some sort of complaint along those lines to have the situation investigated before sending in the troopers to collect their weapons?
These sorts of sweeping, blanket classifications serve only one purpose… to provide another back door method to confiscate guns. And the assumption they make about senior citizens is as insulting as it is outrageously contrary to the Constitution. But once again our hands may wind up being tied because the President is using a new interpretation of existing law and mining into a database completely unrelated to law enforcement to find a way to eliminate gun rights. Sounds to me like it would take a veto-proof act of Congress to modify the laws to prevent this and that’s unlikely to happen.
Clearly Obama is not going to go down without a fight. Let’s hope he gets one on this move.
Seniors are a real big threat to the security of others for sure . They make the thugs in the HOOD look like the J.V. .
Which is another reason to abolish Social Security and let us keep our own money to invest it as we please.

If there ever was a case for a good house cleaning President, this would be it. Track down the names and positions of anyone in government who ever wrote, read, touched, amended, processed or facilitated any part of this policy and charge them with violation of civil rights and provisions of the Second Amendment. Try, convict and sentence every one of them.
This should only affect Democrats.

Uh oh! He’s going around congress. It’s time for them create a bill that lets them review his plan, vote on whether to accept it, then try to override his veto. Corker, your friend Ted Cruz will have your back.

i come across the “is there a gun in the home” occasionally. My answers have ranged from “no” (it’s on me belt or in my car when I’m not home)to “piss me off and find out.”
Such questions are none of their business. And, like an employer asking you a question that’s illegal to ask, courts have ruled time and again that lying as an answer is just fine if the question itself isn’t legally allowed.

Of all the shootings I’ve seen in the past few years, I haven’t seen a single, solitary, “old” person shooting anyone unless it was clearly self-defense, and in home invasions.
Moreover, it’s been whacko’s in their 20’s, black gang members, or Muslims.
This president wants to make old people vulnerable and available to thugs looking to take their lifetime earnings, and property. It’s just another “get whitey” scheme. A spin-off of “death panels”.
Constitution has no 2nd Amendment restrictions on old people, or social security recipients.
Then there’s the millions who are still young who are drawing some form of SS., (disability, fraud, etc). They’re a lot more at risk than old people.
It’s just another Obama scheme to get some foothold in disarming all citizens. If he gets away with declaring the excuses for ignoring the Constitution, eventually he’ll get around to everyone.
As his tenure gets nearer to the end he’s shoving hard on gun control..

If “incomptency” is the key factor, ban gun ownership from LIBs. They are malignantly incompetent at everything they attempt.

Let’s apply competency to voting and remove about half of the living Democrat voters. I don’t know how to remove the dead vote or the foreign vote though.

I agree.. and when I get into an argument with a lib about gun control, I retort with, "I'll go halfway with you... I propose all liberals be forever banned from having anything more lethal than a peashooter. As liberalism is a mental disorder, it's in society's greater good to relieve you of any object with which you could hurt yourself or others. Remember.. it's for the children!"
When the ass bandits won the right to marry their homosexual lovers in the US Supreme Court, every American is suppose to now respect that ruling and look the other way while the ass bandits marry each other, case closed (according to them). They demand churches and Christians respect their homosexuality and the ass bandits demand Christians marry them as well or bake cakes for them etc.
But, after two major land mark rulings on the 2nd amendment of the Us Constitution reaffirming the “individual” right to keep and bear arms for all Americans and not a “state” (or government) right in both supreme court cases, the liberal socialist continue to harass firearm owning Americans; they continue to legislate against our 2nd amendment Right to keep and bear arms at every turn!
Now, the Muslim in chief in the Whitehouse wants to strip every American who is collecting his or her own money they put into the social security administration of their individual right to keep and bear arms, not because they have committed a crime or was afforded due process of law, but, by a simply executive order from the dummy President declaring these Americans persona non grata!
The liberal socialist never stop attacking, harassing, legislating against Americans right to keep and bear arms, but, demand, and cajole Americans into excepting ass bandits marrying each other after the supreme court determination, while completely ignoring two (2) prior ruling from the US Supreme Court that determined the 2nd amendment is an “individual” right and not the “states” (government)!
