Tom Cotton Defies Obama: ‘I Believe That Congress Will Kill The Deal’

Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) denounced the Iranian nuclear deal hailed by President Obama early Tuesday morning, calling it a mistake. “This proposed deal is a terrible dangerous mistake that’s going to pave the path for Iran to get a nuclear weapon while giving them tens of billions of dollars of sanctions relief,” he said in an interview on MSNBC’s Morning Joe.

Cotton, a freshman senator, has made his opposition to the deal the center of his emerging political career.

He described Iran as an “outlaw, terrorist sponsoring, anti-American regime” and criticized the deal for leaving its nuclear program intact.

there is a lot of chatter about a veto and what is required to overturn a veto

a separate question would be would Obama dare veto a bill having significant Democrat support.

given the numbers being reported, a congressional action really doesn’t matter. so long as the boy tyrant sits in the White house, he will do as he damn well pleases.

he is going to be a bad American problem for a very long time. Clinton speech rates will be trivial compared to his demands

He already did, reversing the constitutional balance that attaches to entering into treaties. Instead of 2/3rds to approve (constitutional), now it is 2/3rds to disapprove. Mitch’s bright idea.

Cotton may be right that Congress will vote the agreement down, but Obama will veto their legislation and his veto will be upheld, just as was planned by Corker and McConnell in conjunction with Obama. Cotton isn’t paying attention or is very out of touch with reality IMO.

It was CONGRESS who just voted to put the fix in on this agreement by giving Obama a veto proof powers on any trade deal including this stupid dog and pony show agreement with Islamist terrorist Iran!

Of course the RINO’s have to come out and give the American people the appearance of their [conservative] stand against this President; when in fact, they are all on board and the agreement was a done deal a year ago! Only thing left is getting it in place and saving face at the same time with the American people!

16 will be the very last chance America has to finally get these American hating political ideologist out of our government for good!

Americans need to understand that this is nothing more than a dog and pony show for the benefit of the American people, since the deal was sealed more than a year ago. Remember, liberal socialist boil the frog slowly, or the frog (American people) will jump out of the pan before they can boil them!

Same thing that is going on right under our noses with federal zoning control over the suburbs by integrating them with illegal immigrants and blacks from the inner cities so they can trash and raise the crime right all across America and turning them into demorat voting blocks!

Yep. Impossible as it seems, this punk Obama has succeeded on almost every level with his “fundamental transformation” and I directly blame Congress for this. They have done absolutely nothing while this enemy to the US has brought destruction upon this country and its allies.. This is no different from having Osama Bin Laden as President, I would expect no less from him and Congress does nothing.

It’ll pass. Obama will achieve the ultimate punishment of America, a leveled city.

Why is it so hard to kill the deal?

What’s different about the votes then the potential veto override that I hear about?

If (as expected) the senate rejects the plan and (as expected) the President vetoes it then he will need only 34 votes to sustain the veto thus securing “approval” of the deal. If it appears that Obama will get the 34 votes he needs then it will be time for the Majority Leader to invoke the nuclear option and revert to a majority rather than a super majority....if he has the cajones.

This congress has not stopped Obama on ANYTHING.... Temporary victories are just that... temporary.

Not for 1 second do I believe they will do it and stick to it.

The Republican party in Washington is about 75% compromised.

You mine as well call these bastards Democrats.

All Zippy needs is 34 votes thanks to the Republicans who let the unconstitutional rule change out of committee, and thanks to the Republicans who voted for the rule change. Tom Cotton was the only one who voted against it. Cruz voted for it.

They all said it was so they could see the deal and make amendments, but now the amendments have to be signed by the president. If he vetoes, the deal stands as is.

But I’m sure Mitch will help Obama out here.

That's an ironclad guarantee.

The deal could have been killed by 34 senators before the GOP changed the rules back in Spring.

“This is no different from having Osama Bin Laden as President...”

Interesting observation.

I recall saying to myself, six or seven years ago, that, “After 9/11, Americans will never elect a Moslem.”

I was wrong.

The world of the Fifties in which I grew up has become, in the fullness of time, a very, very strange place.

Congress can’t. This isn’t a treaty that needs Senate approval. Congress can pass a bill against the argeement and all Obama will do is veto it. There won’t be 22 Democrats who will vote to override.

Every Republican and a few Rats from red states will vote no. It won’t matter, the treachery already happened with Corker’s rule change.

Then the next Republican President can kill it with a Republican Congress.

If this is not a treaty, but simply legislation, then it can be undone with future legislation.
