It’s Live Aid’s 30th anniversary and Freddie Mercury’s Queen set is still the best thing about it

Freddie Mercury's Live Aid set is still the best after 30 years

Live Aid celebrates its official 30th anniversary today, but there’s only one star from the famous Wembley show that stands out in our minds.

That’s Freddie Mercury who performed the most epic of epic sets with Queen on July 13th 1985.

For a solid 25 minutes Freddie had the entire Wembley stadium on their feet, as well as 1.5 billion viewers at home, and it has gone down in history as arguably his greatest ever performance.

So whether you wait until your lunch break, or stick your headphones on now, you won’t regret the time you spent watching Freddie Mercury in his element.

Did not like his life style (That killed him) but he was a genius and Queen was just down right awesome.

I was there (philly) anxiously awaiting the return on the mighty Led Zeppelin. One of the most memorable days in my life and favorite experiences of all time. Loved every minute of being there.

What is really amazing is that they put on such a great show considering half the material wasn’t their classic hits, but songs from the synth-infused “Highlander” soundtrack and other obscure tunes like “Radio Gaga”.

I will never forget that performance. I remember seeing it. Freddie Mercury is one of those rare entertainers that comes along. Wow you can see how he interacts with his audience and how they interact back to him. Not many entertainers have that strong charisma and relationship with their fan like Freddie Mercury. Also he has a very strong voice which makes him unique. It is a shame Aids took a great entertainer and person. Yes! I know he is gay but he is not “in your face” gay nor where there scandals about him like Boy George or George Michael.

Had he live today, he would be giving us more great tunes. Yet Freddie was not just a mere Rock n’ Roller, but he also was into Opera. LOL

RIP Freddie you and your talent is great missed.

I agree even though Freddie was gay, he was a genius. Had he lived we would still be getting great music not like today’s crappy music.

I saw Queen several times and the first was the best. It was in Indianapolis in ‘76 during the “Night at the Opera” tour. In the weeks leading up to the show the opening act was “to be announced”. The night of the show that opening act turned out to be a band nobody had heard of yet named “Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band”. Seger almost blew Queen off the stage. One hell of a concert.

"I agree even though Freddie was gay, he was a genius."

Talking about "genius", after Mercury's death Queen's very underrated guitarist Brian May when on to get a doctorate in astrophysics. He really is a genius.
