Pope calls unfettered capitalism 'the dung of the devil'
Telegraph ^ | 7/10/2015 | Agencies

Pope Francis on Thursday launched a blistering attack on the "new colonialism" of austerity, describing unfettered capitalism as “the dung of the devil” and apologising for the Catholic church's role in the conquest of indigenous populations in the Americas.

He delivered a powerful mea culpa on the part of the church in the highlight of his South American pilgrimage, "humbly" begging forgiveness during an encounter in Bolivia with indigenous groups and other activists and in the presence of Bolivia's first-ever indigenous president, Evo Morales.

The first Latin American pope noted that church leaders in the past had acknowledged that "grave sins were committed against the native peoples of America in the name of God." St. John Paul II, for his part, apologized to the continent's indigenous for the "pain and suffering" caused during the 500 years of the church's presence in the Americas during a 1992 visit to the Dominican Republic.

But the Pope went further and said he was doing so with "regret."

"I would also say, and here I wish to be quite clear, as was St. John Paul II: I humbly ask forgiveness, not only for the offenses of the church herself, but also for crimes committed against the native peoples during the so-called conquest of America," he said to applause from the crowd.

Then deviating from his prepared script, he added: "I also want for us to remember the thousands and thousands of priests who strongly opposed the logic of the sword with the power of the cross. There was sin, and it was plentiful. But we never apologized, so I now ask for forgiveness. But where there was sin, and there was plenty of sin, there was also an abundant grace increased by the men who defended indigenous peoples."

More appropriately, it is this leftist imitation pope who is the dung of the devil.

Like most libs he doesn’t have a problem spending someone else’s money. Like most left wing loons he doesn’t address the real problems infesting a somewhat free world . In other words h is a commie hypocrite and is totally useless.. If he is a Christian then the world is flat

The Pope ought to be more concerned about the spread of radical Islam.

Funny how when the Pope sings a tune that the Left and their media like to carry, it gets plastered all over the place

Not mentioned, of course, is that fetterings of capitalism such as allowing Congress to interfere in markets is the sort of thing that leads Archer Daniels Midland to lobby for sugar price supports, which they have done, increasing its price, and therefore pushing food manufacturers towards high fructose corn syrup as a cheaper alternative - which ADM oh so coincidentally just happens to produce. Congratulations, fettered capitalism. And all irrespective of the health consequences of high fructose corn syrup, which might very well be much worse for people’s health, including dental health, than sugar is.

He’s an Argentine, raised in a nanny-state that was ruled by military coups, Peron, the goddess Evita, more military cliques, Peron again, a brief flirt with democracy, and then a couple of kleptomaniacs.

And, by his own admission, he hasn’t watched television in more than twenty years. (I don’t know if he has ever used the Internet.) IOW, his world view is going to be very constricted, and very different from that of an American.

He is, imho, close to South American liberation theologians, if not quite one himself. And he is therefore going to be repeating their analysis of the world’s problems.

That this comes from ignorance, and not malice, doesn’t make the result any better.

How about calling ISIS and Boca Haran and other groups that slaughter innocents "the dung of the devil"?

JMHO, but this Pope is downright dangerous. While horrific forces of evil slaughter Christians and other minorities, he talks about the pollution and capitalism as the primary issues we face. Can the Pope before him (who's still alive) reclaim his seat as the true voice of God?

I'm not kidding. Christians need a voice.

What unfettered capitalism? Is there any such thing left in Europe and in the US?
First countries turn socialist, then when they predictably fail, they blame capitalism!

Unfettered capitalism is merely the freedom to honestly produce goods and services and sell them on a free market.

I wonder how it is that he concludes that is the dung of the devil?
