District of Columbia residents and tourists weighed in on the controversy surrounding the Confederate flag, some saying the nation should go as far as renaming Washington, D.C.
CNN anchor Don Lemon recently floated the idea of re-thinking the Jefferson Memorial, dedicated to Thomas Jefferson, the third president of the United States, since he was a slave owner.
There may come a day when we want to re-think Jefferson, I dont know if we should do that, but when we get to that point, Ill be happy to partake in that particular discussion, Lemon said.
It should come down, one D.C. resident told PJ Media, referencing the Jefferson Memorial in Washington.
If we do that, though, George Washington owned slaves. Should we rename Washington, D.C.? he was asked.
You have to draw the line at some point, I guess, maybe take a poll across the country and see what people think about it and if they want to rename the city, do it, he said. I would support changing the American flag as well. America is based on a lot of mass killings and slavery and the history is just look at the Germans, they own up to the Holocaust, nobody is proud of their history. Americans, at least, you should not be proud of any mass killing. You should not be proud of anything wrong thats been done in the past or any symbols that represent that and thats all.
Another man suggested renaming Washington Black City or Mixed City.
We are all human and we are all the same, no more slavery, he said. As a black person, yes, they should rename it anything that relates to slavery, take it off. Its only fair.
Some residents disagreed with taking down the Jefferson Memorial or renaming Washington.
Thats not necessary thats all a part of history, one man said.
D.C. tourists and residents were also asked if they agreed with a bill recently introduced by Ohio Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown, which would remove the Confederate flag from license plates across the U.S. if states want their full amount of federal transportation dollars. One tourist told PJ Media the bill was not necessary.
No, I think its a part of history. It may not be pretty but its a part of history, she said.
Others agreed with the bill.
I feel like its a symbol of hate, just like the swastika, and I think that it should probably go. People are so unhappy and offended by it, so lets just get rid of it, a resident said.
How about Chocolate City or does NOLA have a copyright on that?
How about Berryville after the former Mayor-for Life?
If he were alive, George Washington would be humiliated having his name associated with such a corrupt and wretched nest of parasites and thieves. He probably would be leading the charge to take his honorable name off the damned place.
Please tell me they’re renaming it Mos Eisly.
Or just call it DC for District of Corruption or District of Commies. However, any of the names you suggested would be appropriate, too.
An insult to sodomites everywhere.
Food Stamp City?
Reverse Prejudice Town?
MLK, Jr. committed the most egregious crime in academia called plagiarism with his doctorate thesis and many of his speeches. He literally stole another man’s writings and did not give credit. He was also a serial philanderer and user of prostitutes. His morals and actions in these sectors should be used to reconsider whether or not he is deserving of a National holiday and many streets and monuments named in his honor. His doctorate should be posthumously revoked. Using this rhetoric for removing historical markers and flags by the Blacks, liberals and progressives, the removal of all MLK, Jr., memorials should be right up there above our founders and others instrumental to the US history. Also consider that naming a street after MLK, Jr. causes crime since the most crime ridden areas of most cities is around the streets named MLK, Jr.
You know, ISIS is eliminating memorial structures and buildings by blowing them up. I see the Democrats who want all these things removed just like a Mild ISIS movement. I wonder when the Democrats will start throwing Christians off the top of the Jefferson Memorial?
I can’t wait for the cleansing.
The STUPID, it BURNS!
This is the incentivized MSM flexing its muscle and filling air-time with low-to-negative information commentary. Asking these ‘people’ about historical figures and events is addressing items which they never learned in school nor had any interest in afterwards. Just for funnies, the same interview should ask a couple of current issue questions like what country is President Obama negotiating a nuclear bomb treaty with OR who is the current mayor of Washington DC?
Of course, just like those hilarious on-the-street interviews from Jay Leno and such, you get the best quotes from the vacuum-skulls like these quotes from Mr Lemon. I mean if you can graduate from Harvard without knowing the decade of the US Civil War or the Revolutionary War, how can we expect better from one of the most expensive public school systems in the world?
We should remove the monument to a more respectable place and call DC, ‘Ho Town’, after all the Hos and Bros.
The ultimate and final “fundamental transformation of America”
Ok how about Corinth or Ephesus?
I wouldn't do that if I were you.
Of Course, people have to been conditioned to accept re-written history.
For Example, Say David Beinoff or D.B. Weiss would have produced The HBO Mini-Series John Adams, in order for us to Root for Alexander Hamilton they would have had say, Thomas Jefferson Burn his Daughter at the Stake, the reasoning being she was destined to die anyway, so we need to see him do something bad so don't like him. Thereby Justifying any Bad things that happens to him from there on out.
But maybe I am being unfair, where would that ever happen?
Don’t worry too much. We’ll be building a new Capital and monuments after the libs finally get their wish and the race riots burn the liberal cities to the ground anyway.
Name it Booker T Washington (Redskins) and call it a day.
how about Dis? or maybe Abbadon?
