~The FReeper Canteen Presents~

Road Trip: United States Air Force Academy, Colorado

The United States Air Force Academy is a military academy for officer candidates for the United States Air Force. Its campus is located immediately north of Colorado Springs in El Paso County, Colorado, United States. The Academy's stated mission is "to educate, train, and inspire men and women to become officers of character, motivated to lead the United States Air Force in service to our nation.

Candidates for admission are judged on their academic achievement, demonstrated leadership, athletics and character. To gain admission, candidates must also pass a fitness test, undergo a thorough medical examination, and secure a nomination, which usually comes from the member of Congress in the candidate's home district.

Recent incoming classes have had about 1,200 cadets; historically just under 1,000 of those will graduate. Tuition along with room and board are all paid for by the U.S. government. Cadets receive a monthly stipend, but incur a commitment to serve a number of years of military service after graduation.

The program at the Academy is guided by the Air Force's core values of "Integrity First, Service Before Self, and Excellence in All We Do", and based on four "pillars of excellence": military training, academics, athletics and character development. In addition to a rigorous military training regimen, cadets also take a broad academic course load with an extensive core curriculum in engineering, humanities, social sciences, basic sciences, military studies and physical education.

The United States Air Force Academy offers a four-year program of instruction and experience designed to provide cadets the knowledge and character essential for leadership, and the motivation to serve as Air Force career officers. Each cadet graduates with a bachelor of science degree and a commission as a second lieutenant in the Air Force.

Good evening, Sand...((HUGS))...I can’t believe how well my Monday has gone. What a change! Wonder if it will carry over to my usual terrible Tuesday?

You ready for a Maddi Tuesday?

Seems odd that the first post is in Colorado.

One would think it would be on the east coast.

She can’t do rehab while she is in such pain. Something HAS to be done.

If anyone had asked me, that’s what I would have guessed. Like...Maine, for instance. :)

Plus, I feel that the Honor Codes at ALL of the federal service academies have been compromised by the admission of homosexuals to their ranks.

“We will not lie, cheat or steal, nor tolerate those among us who do.”

These days, like the Constitution in which “rights” unimagined by their authors, have become the cachet of liars, cheats and thieves of honor, it has become so deflating in a personal sense for me, that I can’t see how these once vaunted institutions can continue except by this pious fraud.

Sorry KinA, to have in anyway usurped the general joyousness of the thread. But I feel it would have compromised my feelings for these Honor Codes to not have.

Hi, Ya, heading out Sunday to the field. I get a heads up before leaving so I know what to pack using one of those roll cases that’ll fit in a stow bin. There’s talk of the LA/Vegas/Reno/Jackson Hole run - should be fun.

Hi LUV - just wanted to spice up my replies here. It’s the same background I use on my profile page. Ever since a friend taught me some html I’ve been practicing, getting books from the library and learning.

No usurpation at all, onedoug. You have stated the “problem” excellently!!

I’m glad you felt you could vent those feelings. I agree with you 100%.

The PC is leading to their destruction.

I does seem odd that that long ago was in relatively “unsettled” America. The east coast does seem more likely.
