Jeb Bush Says He Takes Trump's Comments on Immigration Personally

Republican presidential candidate Jeb Bush says he is personally offended by rival Donald Trump's recent remarks about Mexico and immigrants and calls the remarks far outside the mainstream of Republican thought.

"I don't think he represents the Republican Party, and his views are way out of the mainstream of what Republicans think," Bush told reporters after marching in Fourth of July parades in Amherst and Merrimack, New Hampshire.

"No one suggests that we shouldn't control our borders — everybody has a belief that we should control our borders," he said. "But to make these extraordinarily ugly kind of comments is not reflective of the Republican Party. Trump is wrong on this."

Bush's wife was born in Mexico, and when he was asked if he took Trump's remarks personally, he responded: "Yeah, of course. Absolutely. And a lot of other people as well."

Gee, my Wife is a Hispanic and I don’t take Trumps comments personally. In fact, we agree wholeheartedly with him.

Immigrants are Invited. Illegal Invaders are not.

It’s so simple even an (honest) Democrat can understand it.

I have to really wonder just who Jeb thinks he's campaigning to with these statements. Pro-amnesty independents? How many of those vote for an R? 20?

Or is the target audience large donors who might have been worried that Jeb wouldn't come through for them with a big amnesty deal? Make a statement now, or no more money?

Because I can't see any possible gains in the overall electorate over such statements. A Mexican wife? Big deal, there's Marco Rubio who's hispanic. Continuing to highlight something which might drive votes away from you (was she legal?) seems to be a vote loser.

It has to be on orders from large donors who want Trump declared a non-Republican that has nothing to do with the Republican party. Which really seems like throwing away even more votes. “He's not really a Republican.” Well, that's giving permission for those who ‘won't vote for a Republican’ to vote for him, a pretty big contingent in New Hampshire.

It just doesn't make any sense, strategy wise, at this point to get into this. A simple ‘I don't agree with Trump’ would play much better, save the heartfelt offense for a debate stomp or to help recover from the thrashing in Iowa or New Hampshire.

So, here's the real question in my mind: If Jeb’s tanking it on purpose, who's the real GOPe candidate in the race? A white knight Romney who'll ride in to save the day?
