Donald Trump's comments on immigration complicate GOP's 'Latino problem'
LA Times | 7/1/15 | LISA MASCARO

Wen Donald Trump disparaged Mexican immigrants as “rapists” and drug-runners during his presidential announcement speech, the slurs were initially dismissed as just another outrageous pronouncement from the blustery billionaire.

But as Latinos reel in anger and celebrities and corporate sponsors drop their associations with Trump, the Republican Party’s other presidential hopefuls face an increasingly uncomfortable choice: engage with Trump and elevate his already high visibility or stay silent and risk appearing to condone his statements. So far, most have said little, hoping the controversy will fade.

-snip-

Bush, whose wife is Mexican American and who has openly courted Latinos, has said little publicly beyond a response he gave in Spanish over the weekend to a reporter’s question after a town hall meeting in Nevada.

“I do not agree with his remarks,” Bush said, according to a translation provided by the campaign. “They do not represent the values of the Republican Party, and they do not represent my values. The man is wrong.”

The GOP is screwed, because if they piss Trump off, he’ll just go self-funded 3rd party, and that means President Hillary.

I don’t think she can draw folks either.

We may be looking at another Perot type situation where a party only needs to get 35% of the vote to place their guy into the White House.

He will never run. He would have to file financial documents that would reveal he only has between $150 million to $250 million.

The GOP is screwed but its not because of Trump. Its because they are a bunch of corrupt weakspined quislings who for the most part sell their vote to the hightest bidder. And we have hardly any candidates who can even get the GOP base out to vote. Forget blacks and Hispanics they vote Democrat. Get out the base. Trump is likely going to do that.

Defeating Hillary is a monumental if even surmountable task anyway. Trump will least he’ll make it entertaining.

What republicans have to say?

They haven’t said a word. They’re depending on the liberal big media do defend them against Trump. They should hide.

The GOP screwed themselves by saying NOTHING about the boarder wides open and pushing the Obama Agenda.

GOP is going to have a major defeat in 2016. This is all their fault lead by $hitheads Boehner and McConnel. The biggest Traitors to our Republic Benedict Arnold

Correct, the establishment GOP did this all to themselves. From whoring for corporate money to hosing their constituents, to enabling Obama, to trying to crush their base.

This is the natural result of all of it.

The GOP’s support of amnesty complicates the republican white voter

If the GOP gets 25% more Hispanics to vote for them, that’s maybe 2% of the electorate. If they lose 5% of the white vote with their pandering that’s twice as many votes.
