Illinois auto museum to keep General Lee with Confederate flag on display

VOLO, ILL. • A museum in this northern Illinois town plans to keep displaying one of the Confederate flag-emblazoned cars used in the TV series "The Dukes of Hazzard."

Brian Grams, director of the Volo Auto Museum, says he has received lots of queries about whether the car will stay amid calls around the nation for Confederate flags to be removed from public display after the fatal shooting of nine people by a white man at a historic black church in Charleston, S.C.

Grams says if any location is appropriate for the displaying the flag, it's a museum. But he also thinks lawmakers are right to debate the flag's presence on government grounds.

Well, there’s one, anyway.

In 2012, the franchise removed it from the “new” General Lee.

It was missing in the new Dukes/Dodge Charger commercial, too.

Lynyrd Skynrd dropped it years ago, as well.

All of this makes me really detest Neil Young.

Beats me.

There’s a slew of “General Lees” around these parts but they’re all ones built by local motor heads.

I read an article about this issue years ago and I think out of all of them, only a few “real” ones survived.

"All of this makes me really detest Neil Young."

I didn't need the extra help.
Young has been on my "No Play" list for a long time.
Along with Jackson Browne, James Taylor, and a few others that I am blessed not to remember at this moment.

They bring out "The Bluto" in me.
