GOP presidential candidate Ben Carson said he strongly disagreed with the Supreme Court's decision Friday to legalize same-sex marriage nationwide but acknowledged it is now the law of the land.
I call on Congress to make sure deeply held religious views are respected and protected, Carson said in a statement issued following the court's historic ruling. The government must never force Christians to violate their religious beliefs.
Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee called the ruling irrational and unconstitutional.
Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, who launched his presidential campaign on Wednesday, said the decision would pave the way for an all out assault against the religious freedom rights of Christians who disagree with this decision.
GOP front-runner, former Gov. Jeb Bush (Fla.), meanwhile, had a more tempered reaction, saying only that he believes the Supreme Court should have allowed the states to make this decision.
So was segregation at one time. Would he have said the same thing about that?
People need to wake the F up and think!
As long as you're dreaming, Ben, would you like a pony? Nice candidacy you used to have.
The Supreme Court does not make law.
Law of the land? Hogwash. Congress is supposed to make laws, not the Extreme Court.
Cruz, Walker and Jindal are not viewing this as something that cannot be dealt with in some manner. I think this particular issue is a huge minefield for Carson now.
IT IS NOT THE LAW OF THE LAND. It is the imposition of an unconstitutional dictum of an overreaching oligarchy. MLK said an unjust law is no law at all. He was right then, and he is right now.
So I guess Chief Justice Taney’s opinions are OK too.
I really wonder if a GOP congress even has the intellectual guns and the stomach for a fight to even craft an airtight protection of religious freedom.....
My guess is NO.
While these liberal groups are insulting him
Correct, I was never a big supporter of Carson anyway but he is for sure is off any list I might have.
This is exactly why Trump is doing well.
People don’t want bland surrender monkeys to lead them. They want fighters.
This is now a lawless country under mob rule. Sic semper tyrannis.
Just a suggestion Dr. Carson: perhaps its the law of the land doesnt have the intensity we need from a prospective candidate.
I think we are looking for something a bit stronger like: This is totally f unacceptable!!!
I find it significant that the homosexual activists have adopted the rainbow.
If ever there was a time that God needed to be reminded he would never flood the earth again, it is now.
When Nazis packed Jews into cattle cars to take them to "resettlement areas", that was the law of the land, too. Every bit of it all tidy, neat, and legal.
Slavery was the land of the law as well.
you know what was ‘law of the land’?
marriage between one man and one woman.
you’ll excuse me if i don’t readily accept their assurances they won’t start imprisoning religious leaders at the first opportunity.
i reject their fascist bs
