Three visiting U.S. senators said on Saturday they hoped Congress would support President Barack Obama's opening toward Cuba, including lifting a ban on U.S. citizens traveling to the Communist-run island.

Democratic Senators Patrick Leahy of Vermont and Ben Cardin of Maryland joined Republican Dean Heller of Nevada on a trip to Cuba where they met First Vice-President Miguel Diaz-Canel, Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez and ordinary Cubans.

I’d imagine the dollar vs peso exchange rate is pretty good. But I’m sure the ladies only take dollars.

Cuba is going to release the private property they seized and give reparations for the lost income on that property? No? Why are you there then?

Oh well, dealing with a Latin American dictator just proves nothing is new under the sun.

I’ve heard that prostitution is a big source of income for many Cuban families. The Cuban people are so poor, that many women, such as ordinary housewives, turn to prostitution to earn extra cash. And they especially turn to foreign visitors from whom they will get hard currency. Hard currency helps them survive in the ramshackle Cuban economy.

Stupid question I have — why is the cuban economy such a basket case? If communism is so superior, why are their people and society so poor??? And if anyone says the american trade embargo has hurt Cuba, I would then ask, are we saying that an enlightened communist paradise such as Cuba needs to be subsidized by an evil capitalist system such as America????

A nonsense assertion as you know.

All European nations trade with Cuba as does pretty much the rest of the planet. If they had anything worth selling they could sell it. But the Castro plantation produces virtually nothing that can't be made elsewhere. Feeding themselves and their gangster overlord class is even a problem.

They want U.S. embargos to stop so they can shuck and jive their way onto the U.S. welfare train and get us to subsidize their little Spaniard gangster state.

Senator Dean Heller (R-Nev) gets an F grade from Conservative Review so that probably explains his presence with the other two reprobates.

If communism is so superior, why are their people and society so poor???

And why do they risk their and their children's lives in in shark-invested waters, in rickety old boats trying to escape it and come here?? Why do they build great walls to keep their people IN, when we need them to keep people OUT.

The way things are going right now under Comrade Obama, I don’t know how much longer America will be the place of choice to escape communism.
