Sally Kohn: The GOP Gay Marriage Freakout
The Daily Beast ^ | June 26, 2015 | Sally Kohn, progressive lesbian activist and writer

Posted on 06/27/2015 1:31:22 AM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

It is wrong for public officials to defy the Supreme Court. Yet that’s what Republican presidential candidates have promised.

Marriage equality has won at the Supreme Court, but the fight over gay marriage is far from over. Now we enter the Republican temper tantrum phase.

Even before the Supreme Court’s ruling, several prominent Republicans had pledged to disobey any high court ruling in favor of marriage equality—and had called on their fellow Republican leaders to do the same.

For instance, Republican presidential candidates Rick Santorum and Mike Huckabee have both signed a pledge that reads, “We will not honor any decision by the Supreme Court which will force us to violate a clear biblical understanding of marriage as solely the union of one man and one woman.”

Huckabee also challenged the authority of our nation’s highest court when he said, “The Supreme Court can’t overrule God.”

Republican Senator Ted Cruz and Representative Steve King also called for Congress and any future Republican president to flagrantly ignore such a Supreme Court ruling.

Let’s be clear: These are current and former officeholders, who have taken an oath to uphold the laws of our nation, literally pledging to violate those laws as interpreted by the Supreme Court....

So Dred Scott should've remained the law of the land, Sally? You can't have it both ways! How about Citizens United? Heller?

Only leftists in sanctuary cities are entitled to nullify the law.

"These are current and former officeholders, who have taken an oath to uphold the laws of our nation"

Is article writer Sally Kohn suggesting that an oath of office is as meaningless to some Republican officeholders as it is to comrade dictator barack hussein obama?

Liberal behavior in a conservative is inexcusable!

No interest in reading this revolting leftist lesbian, even more so after recently saying she hopes her adopted daughter turns out to be lesbian as well.

When the gummint itself is lawless it is they who have violated the social contract. We have no moral duty to obey a lawless gummint.

ROFL! The Supreme Court also took an oath to uphold the laws of the nation, but they crammed this illegal (as in blatantly unconstitutional) and immoral decision down our throats. Like we can’t read the US Constitution and understand what it means without having some judge interpret it for us—we can.

So now we’re supposed to just accept these rulings as the law of the land??? Ha! The jig is up, leftists. We conservatives are slowly learning how the game is played, and we’re going to show as much respect for the “law” as you...meaning NONE.

Oh, I’ll follow the law so long as it doesn’t force me to violate my (constitutionally enumerated) right to freely exercise my religion, but I’ll show the law and courts no respect. They are nothing more or less than black robed thugs who deserve as much ridicule and contempt as I can muster.

The Bible trumps what the SCOTUS thinks the Constitution says. Suck it, Sally, though I know you prefer clam

Ok, if any conservative was freaking out, there was something wrong in the first place. I had this at 90/10 in favor of gay marriage. This is the court that Obama has belittled and they have rubber stamped his entire agenda. The only time there are co- equal and separate branches of the government is when a Republican is president.
Morality cannot be legislated, especially anything other than murder one. So now that man has lost, maybe we can get back to God.
I would have freaked out if they voted against it... because that would have meant something more ominous.

This court decision was invalid because it was highly tainted with bias in at least two Leftist justices, Kagan and Ginsberg.

A decision reached through a corrupt process shouldn’t be considered valid in the least.

How? The SCOTUS decision permits gay marriage. It doesn't mandate it.

Besides, Santorum and Huckabee do not hold any public office. What "oath of office" could apply? SCOTUS specifically said nobody gives up their First Amendment rights.

Well Sally I am not a Republican (see tagline) I am an American, a Christian American, a veteran American, that has served my nation and its people. I am not freaked out that the Court has ok’d homosexual marriage I am disgusted embarrassed and ashamed of the Court and what has been happening to my Country. Once one perversion becomes legitimized others will follow and soon the Country that was a beacon to the world will be just another shithole on the planet..

So if the governor of Texas sticks to his promise of not violating people’s conscience or acting in defense of the frivolous and excessive lawsuits that the leftists want to throw at poorer people, that makes him bad? This woman sounds like a totalitarian.

We passed a law in Michigan a few months back protecting business owners from prosecution for refusing to violate their religious beliefs.

Two questions: 1. Will the Muslims be exempt from performing queer weddings (like they are exempt from ObamaCare)?

2. Will queers be required to get an AIDS test prior to the issuing of the marriage license?

What difference would an HIV test make? They don’t care! If they cared you would have seen a change years ago. They have been warning about HIV being sexually transmissible since the 1980s. Yet HIV infections still occur highly disproportionately in a specific group. Then with other STDs, likewise.

Oh please... if the court had ruled the other way, she’d be calling on the Democrats to burn it to the ground.
