Look for the left to turn on itself because the impulse to do good is insatiable. Unlike conservatives whose gravitational pull moderates them, leftists as a group seem not to have a functioning gyroscope, rather their natural tendency is toward excess. The impulse to do good by censoring speech on behalf of racial equality now extends to the absurd but will soon become more tyrannical. The reach will become longer, the justification thinner.
A wolfpack is eternally in a potential state of anarchy as many candidates seek to become dominant. So it is with a pack of leftists. Naomi Wolf was right, the left needs an alpha male. If they have no alpha male such as Barack Obama, a ravening pack is likely to turn on its own. The quest for power by the faithless Left is after all the major symptom of God playing and it is irresistible because the practice of excess today is as much the token of purity as it was in the French revolution. A leftist is emotionally satisfied by temporal salvation defined as acceptance by the group. The power struggle for more acceptance within the group demands more and more ideological rigor which, Chairman Mao style, must inevitably be required of the rank-and-file as well as from the Trotskys. In his remarks in recent days we see Barack Obama playing a kinder, gentler Chairman Mao.
After this rampage has burned itself out against conservatives, Christians, patriots and other contrived enemies, the search for new enemies will turn inward.
