On Tuesday, after the entire Republican primary field - including Donald Trump and George Pataki - had taken a position on the Confederate flag, and after the Republican governor of South Carolina, Nikki Haley, had asked for its removal from the state capitol grounds, Chris Christie seemed to calculate that it was politically safe to do the same.
The New Jersey governor said in a statement that Haley had "demonstrated what it means to be a leader" and that he commended her decision. ...
Every Republican presidential candidate, including the not-yet announced ones, had said something, even if it was, like Mike Huckabee, Rick Perry, Rick Santorum, Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, Scott Walker, and George Pataki, an "It's up to South Carolina to decide" non-answer.
Lindsey Graham, Rand Paul, and Carly Fiorina called the flag a symbol of racism.
Ben Carson said it "causes a lot of people angst."
Jeb Bush boasted that he did the right thing in Florida by "moving the flag from the state ground to a museum where it belonged."
Donald Trump declared, "I would take it down, yes."

Divisive to whom? Not me or anyone around here.
The rainbow flag however is divisive.
What say you?
I don’t want anyone outside my state deciding to remove the man with a gun from our flag.
How about deep sixing the State Flag of Hawaii? Its got a huge Union Jack (Great Britain) in it. Half of the state flags have something some liberal looney tune could and probably will find divisive. They are nut cases thru and thru and will never be satisfied. Its their game plan to overrun the country. They are a political cancer.
Trump would take it down hmmm?
Apparently there are several other GOP contenders that seem to lean that way as well.
“Ben Carson said it “causes a lot of people angst.””
But did he take a stand? I believe “Let South Carolina decide” is a much better answer.
That’s disappointing to me, thought he b@lls to stand up to libtard stupidity.
They are all running to the mics yelling ‘me too, me too, I agree, I agree’
I’m giving Trump a semi pass on this one as his quote that I read was pretty mild about the flag. He is trying to protect himself from Shrillary blaming him on social media for the Charleston shooting. Pretty terrible thing to accuse someone of.
Are we going to ban anything “divisive” or “causes angst”?
Republican, the “me too” party.
They first used “me-too”, I believe, about Dewey. But it’s worse now than it was then.
the confederate flag is a Democrat emblem why be surprised Republican politicians call it divisive...
That's all this whole flag business is about- division. That's what Obama does. He tries to divide in any way he can.
Let the record show that Donald Trump was part of the witch hunter mob of 21st Century brownshirts going after a flag because of mass murder when the flag didn’t murder anyone.
I’d suspect, to less than 12% of the population.
But one that offends 90%+ of the Christian community (MUCH higher than 12%), the ‘Rainbow Flag’...Hoist that bitch above the Stars and Stripes and tell ‘em “to suck-it-up, bigot”
Yeah, fair and applied equally /s
