JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — A top Mississippi lawmaker said Monday that the Confederate battle emblem is offensive and needs to be removed from the state flag.
House Speaker Philip Gunn became the first top-tier Republican to call for a change in the flag, which has had the Confederate symbol in the upper left corner since Reconstruction.
"We must always remember our past, but that does not mean we must let it define us," Gunn, a leader in his local Baptist church, said in a statement. "As a Christian, I believe our state's flag has become a point of offense that needs to be removed. We need to begin having conversations about changing Mississippi's flag."
Mississippi and Tennessee officials are grappling with whether to retain Old South symbols, even as South Carolina leaders are pushing to remove a Confederate battle flag that flies outside the statehouse there.

My FRiend, it is not the Confederate Flag they are after. It is the United States of America flag. The Stars and Stripes. However, they know that to get to the American Flag, they must first get the Confederate Flag. Then, once the Confederate Flag is gone, they will employ the same tactics they used against the Confederate Flag to get rid of the American Flag. next on the list will be the Star Spangled Banner. This will continue until every iota of American Heritage is banned. This is their goal. They pick the low hanging fruit first and then go to the next lowest.

Forgetting that thought for a moment, can anyone say with any degree of integrity that doing such a thing would improve race relations one iota? Would we, by that measure by “addressing” our dark racial history in any functional way? Would Blacks feel like they had “won” something that would in some way placate them?

what does Haley Barbour have to say? He ran ads accusing Republicans of being racist. I’m guessing all those blacks who voted for Thad Cochran in the open primary are demanding a return for that vote!

The African colors that many “pan-African” and “muthaland” types sport, need to be banned too. Look at all the wars and massacres which have occurred under those colors, Hutus and Tutsis, etc, those colors are obviously a rallying symbol for mayhem and murder.
Change the speaker, keep the Flag.
